KENDO TOURNAMENT IS GO!
Who: Masami, Shirou, Ito-sensei, most likely the Cheer-Wrestling Club, open to all others
What: Kendo Teams Prefecturals
Where: Nanakamado gym
When: Sunday, July 14
Why: Because Masami needs to beat down some evil. Or just some people from other schools.

A few of the other school teams were already there when Masami arrived at Nanakamado. Masami could pick out a few of the other teams by recognizing members who had been at last year's prefecturals: Shirokin High, Tsuruga High, Seimei High... She could feel the eyes of most of the other teams on her and catch parts of whispers pointing her out and the like. She even heard more than one person hoping out loud that they didn't get matched against her.

It wasn't very long before she heard a call of "Sakuraba-senpai!" and turned her head to see Shirou running over to her.

"Oh, Shirou-kun. Who else is here?"

"Well with you the whole girl's team is here! And of the boy's team we're still waiting for Karasuma-senpai and Sakaguchi-senpai! I saw Ito-sensei here before but he's probably busy with organization or something!"

Masami simply nodded. "Well, things should be starting up soon. It looks like some of the spectators are already here too. We should go get ourselves ready."

"Yeah! We better hurry!" Shirou began. Masami knew what was coming next before he even started.

"ALL RIGHT! I'M PUMPED NOW! HERE WE COME, NATIONALS!"

"Hey, you guys!" Suzume yelled to the three-day-old cheer-wrestling team. The uniforms weren't ready yet and they hadn't had time to practice a routine but they had SPIRIT and they had YELLING and they had POMPOMS! "Everyone ready? No way they'll lose with us backing them up!"

Kanaye nodded, clapping happily. "OF COURSE!" he shouted, raising his arms in the air and waving them (he didn't care.) "WE CAN DO THIS! ALL RIGHT!" he screamed, hoping someone else would take the bait.

"They're going to prove to be the best!" Misaki shouted happily and hurried over to Suzumi with a bag. "Suzumi-neechan, here. Unifoms aren't finished but I managed to make some skirts that have velcro on them that we can wear for now."

She pulled out red skirts and handed them out, "Hope that helps."

Maeko wasn't particularly pleased about having to attend but when she'd realized that Masami was competing (why had she not realized this sooner? The last few days had involved enough studying to forcefully shove anything that wasn't in her notes out of her head.) she decided that she should probably stay to support her as a classmate and teammate. It was the right thing to do, after all.

Misaki was the first to notice Maeko and hurried up in the stands before they had to start the cheers. She grinned happily as she quickly took a seat.

"Maeko-chan you made it! It didn't start yet, but we're already starting to work on cheering for the teams." Misaki told her and grinned."Oh and there's something that I wanted to give to you before things get to hetic okay?"

She pulled out the second yellow envelope and carefully opened it. She shook it twice and out slipped two gold chains each with a two little Pandas that were hugging. Each had the kanji for best friend on it. Misaki blushed some, "I bought these back then because one of the top things on my list of things I wanted to do when I was sixteen was have a best friend. So which one would you like?"

"Um, okay..." Maeko said, nodding. She didn't particularly care for the cheering but it seemed like something Misaki liked.

She paused for a second in thought and then reached for ther left Panda, the closest to her. "...are you sure?"

Misaki smiled brightly and nodded, "Of course I"m sure. I wouldn't be giving it to you if I wasn't."

She looked down, "The crowds so big here today. I wonder if we're going to be able to make them get excited. I'm really really nervous Maeko-chan, but I'm glad you're here."

"...okay, then. Thank you." Maeko said, taking the left panda and fumbling with the clasp as she fixed it around her neck.

"You don't have to worry, okay? I'll cheer even if nobody else is."

Misaki grinned putting her's on. She slipped it over her neck and twisted it so it would sit better. "I"m glad you like it."

"Really?! You're the best Maeko chan!" Misaki threw her arms around Maeko and hugged her tightly.

Kanaye was watching with a smile. It was faked, but he could pretend, at the very least. "Hey, Maeko-chan! Nice to see you here!" he said, walking over. He nodded to Misaki with a smile and blinked at the chains. "What're those?" he asked, leaning in towards Maeko's chain to get a better look.

"It's a bestfriends necklace. When you put them together they hug. I got them when I was six, this was the thing I wanted to give Maeko-chan from the box." Misaki beamed happily displaying her own.

Kanaye was still smiling, but he was also obviously twitching. He had stayed up til three in the morning, dug through a track field, and had a horrible dream...
because of a freaking best friends necklace? She could have bought then ANYWHERE! Seriously, they probably aren't even real gold... "Well, that was nice of you, Misaki-san!" he beamed proudly. "But I imagine those guards caught you, right? What happened?" he asked, seemingly concerned.

Misaki let out a long sigh. "I'm going to have to not be allowed to participate in clubs for a while, and help on the track and do some detention and help Retsu-sempai."

Misaki looked at the necklace, "But...despite that, I...it was worth it."

She gripped onto the little bear tightly.

Kanaye smiled and had to resist the urge to clap sarcastically. "Well, that's too bad, Misaki-san, but you have to admit, you deserved that. I'm glad to see you thought it was worth it." Cause I sure as hell didn't. "If Gendou-san gives you any trouble, tell me, alright? I'll put him in his place."

Tom had been a bit curious by the Kendo match. He had arrived quietly, told no one of his intent to watch, and tried to stand in the most inconspicuous spot he could find. (Stand because if he did get spotted he'd want to vanish quickly.)

Toshimi felt that she should probably have been studying for the rest of exams, but she had sort of implied to Shirou that she would try to show up. And Shirou seemed like the kind of person who would actually say something to her if she didn't. Well, at least it was something to do where she didn't have to pay for any tickets or anything.

Still, she sat at the front of the audience paging through a book from Japanese Literature. The tournament hadn't started yet, and she didn't want to be wasting this vital time. It was rather noisy for reading, but Toshimi smiled into her book, apparently not bothered by it.

It was another half an hour, perhaps a bit more, before the tournament actually started. After standing there listening to Ito-sensei give a short speech, the tournament schedule was displayed. Nanakamado's teams were both in for relatively tough brackets. The boy's team had it slightly easier than the girl's team, but chances are they'd have to face off against Shirokin High in the finals of their bracket, whose boy's team had gone to nationals last year(they had lost relatively early in nationals, though, and rumor had it that they had been going through some incredibly strict practice to make sure that wasn't repeated this year).

The girl's team had it even harder, but of course they already were considered to be the team to beat. Still, they'd have to fight Seimei high in their bracket finals, and Seimei was always a very strong contender.

Ito-sensei had let the team organize their positions on their own. On the boy's team, Shirou was senpou, meaning that he would be the first one to fight in each match. This was partly because he was a first-year and partly because he was the stronger of the two first-years, so starting off with a win was a good way to raise morale. Also, even though some teams were known for starting off with their aces, Shirou would likely still be able to put up a good fight.

For the girl's team, Masami had been placed as the taishou position, which often was reserved for the team captains. In this case it was because the team wanted their ace to be able to finish off rounds that they were already winning anyway, and to make up for any potential bad luck in earlier rounds of each match.

The girl's team's first match was against Mizukoshi All-Girls High. Mizukoshi's team had been very strong in the past but most of their best members had graduated and the team was now rebuilding. As expected, the matches went generally well overall for Nanakamado. Class 1-A's Kuwahara Noriko, the team's senpou, lost, as Masami had expected. It took her a couple rounds to get warmed up so she usually didn't do that well in the beginning but got better as the day went on. Next the Jihou, Andou Miyuki of class 2-C, stepped up and won her match - she tended to do better under pressure, so she was a good second if Kuwahara lost and could hold her own even if that wasn't the case. Third and fourth, in the chuuken and fukushou positions, were Tousaka Youko and Ueno Hitomi, both of class 3-C. Both of them won, though Tousaka had a bit of trouble in her match.

Finally it was Masami's turn to go up. The moment the judge called out "Start!" Masami instantly sprung forward and with a shout of "MEN!" hit her opponent squarely on the head for her first point before the other girl could even start moving. Her second point came in a virtual instant-replay, and with that the first round was done.

With her own match done, Masami decided she'd go look around a bit, maybe check on how the boy's team was doing. She'd spotted a couple of familiar faces among the spectators too, so maybe she'd stop and talk for a little before the next round.

"Hey lets give a cheer for Masami-chan?" Misaki suggested to Suzume. She posed in the ready to giv it her all.
