Who: Shiori and Kanaye
What: Playing sandbag
Where: Skypark
When: Sunday afternoon
Why: Because Kanaye is ttly jealous. ttly.

Despite all of it's obvious fakeness, Skypark was still one of the most popular parks in Iburi. It's high location boasted a terrific view that made it popular to visit for a variety of reasons. Unsurprisingly, Shiori's main motivation for going to Skypark was to get some practice drawing landscapes. And being on top of a building helped her find some beautiful views. The artificial trees and blossoms did little to deter her; she wasn't, after all, there to draw the trees, but to experiment with colored pencils and shading. To get the best view she could, Shiori settled on the fake grass as close to the fence as she could get while still being mindful of her skirt. Didn't want anything to show, after all.

Though the fact she was wearing a skirt and sitting on the ground would probably make someone wonder just how worried she was about it.

Her colored pencils spread out on one side and her bag on the other, Shiori had her sketchbook open in her lap and a pale blue in hand as she colored in part of the skyline. She had no idea how long she had been out there for, but as she finished her picture she realized that maybe it was time to take a break. Her hand was beginning to cramp up, and her stomach was making it known that it required human sacrifices substance. Carefully putting everything back in her bed, she stood and with one last glance at the view turned to head back down to ground level.

What to do now, she wondered to herself.

Ah. Skypark. Modern technology at it's most pointless. He can't argue that it looks pretty, though. Perhaps he would find romance among these pretty cherry blossoms?

Probably not, but at least it'd add to his posing ability. Lost among the cherry blossoms, he almost ran into Shiori.

"Oh, hello Shiori-chan. Looking for something to draw?"

Blinking in surprise when Satou-senpai suddenly entered her vision, Shiori smiled brightly at him.

"Not anymore!" she said cheerfully, lifting the strap of her bag slightly. "I just finished for now. What are you doing here, senpai?"

He didn't seem like the kind of guy that would come to the Skypark. Even Shiori, who barely paid attention in school, knew from her classmates that Satou-senpai was a flirt. She had seen it herself, too, when they were in that other world. And a guy like that would be better off looking for people in the city, wouldn't he? The only girls that came up here usually had a boyfriend attached to them.

Maybe he just wanted to meditate or something, she wondered to herself. But that didn't fit either...

"Oh, nothing..." Kanaye said after sighing dramatically. (In order to conserve typing time, pretend everything he does has the adverb "dramatically" attached to it.) "I simply wished to view the cherry blossoms. They're quite nice."

Looking up at the fake trees and their equally fake blossoms (though not obvious - she had to admit that), Shiori blinked at it for a moment before looking back to Satou.

"You're weird, senpai," she decided, giggling. "I didn't know you liked flowers."

Really, having him admit that he was only there to view the cherry blossoms was surprising.

Kanaye smiled. He liked her giggle. "Why wouldn't I like flowers? They're quite pretty. They are bright and vibrant. They make sure you always know they're there. Quite like you, really."
Kanaye did the calculations in his head. What would be the best way to approach her? The obvious route was to simply do what Keiichi did, but that would seem like he's just following in his footsteps, and he was better then that. Perhaps he would invite her to the ice cream shop? Oh, but that would seem girly, like a girl-to-girl friendship thing. Maybe that would be a good thing? All this thinking has made him go crosseyed. Eh, he'll think of something.

Blushing lightly, Shiori did an 'aw, shucks' look and shifted her weight from one foot to the other shyly.

"You're not exactly a wallflower either," she pointed out, proud of her witty line. Flowers, wallflower. Haha. Hesitating, she wondered if maybe she should just ask Satou-senpai to come with her. Would she be too forward though? What if he was busy?

Well, he couldn't be too busy if he was just going to look at flowers. And he could always go another day. Who knew when they might bump into each other again?

"Hey, senpai, I'm going to go get something to eat. Wanna come with?" she asked, smiling at him. "If you're not too busy, I mean."

Kanaye couldn't believe his luck. He had spent the last 3 minutes mentally coming up with every place in town and thinking of which one to ask her to, and she does it herself. Kanaye was liking this girl more and more.
"Oh, no, of course I'm not to busy to go somewhere with you!" Dramatically pointing off into the distance, he turned to Shiori again. "Where are we going?"

"Right on! That's the spirit!" Shiori cheered, pumping a fist into the air before deflating somewhat. Where did she want to eat? Noodle Alley was the obvious choice, but having just gone there with Keiichi three days ago she wasn't sure she wanted noodles anymore. And the last time she went for ice cream was the study session - bad memories, if you asked her.

So, tapping her chin thoughtfully, she suggested, "Maybe burgers?"

"American?" Kanaye questioned. Not exactly the best romantic date, but going along with it shows that he isn't too pushy, and it's better to start slow.
"Sure. Haven't had burgers in a while." Or ever, but she didn't need to know that. Didn't want to lord his money over her or something.

"Oh, um... we can go somewhere else if you'd like," Shiori said, realizing that it was probably rude of her to suggest it. She could have sworn more people ate burgers though - or was it just her? She did like weird things, after all...

Shrugging the thoughts away, she struggled to think of some place else they could eat. And failed. All there was to eat around here was noodles and ice cream! Everywhere else was too formal!

"Oh, no, no, I'm fine. Trying new things is always good, as my father always said." Kanaye said, and with a flourish, he bowed to Shiori and gestured to the ramp leading to the car park proper. "After you, Shiori-chan."

Shiori heard what he said there.

"'New'?" she echoed back. "I thought you said it had just been awhile..."

She paused before shaking her head, chirping a "nevermind, nevermind!" before turning towards the exit ramp.

"So how's your weekend been, senpai?" she asked, slowing so she could walk alongside him.

Smiling, Kanaye nods at Shiori and walks next to her.
"Quite good, actually. Talked with father about the company, and went for a walk. Not all that exciting."
Kanaye powerwalks for a bit so he's in front of her and turns around with a questioning smile. "The important question is: how has YOUR weekend been, Shiori-chan?"

"Pretty boring too," Shiori sighed. "I had to babysit my little brother and sister yesterday, but I was free today so I came here to draw. But your dad has a company? Is it a big one?"

If it was, it would certainly explain his princely attitude. Satou-senpai would have to be as charming as possible in order to influence other people and attract potential clients. Assuming he was the one inheriting the business.

"Yep. Giant car company. I'm expected to inherit the business. Satou motors." Kanaye really didn't like talking about his family. The less said about his father, the better. Quickly switching to curious smile, which is very different from questioning smile and happy smile, Kanaye asks "You have siblings? I wished I have siblings." Yeah, so I wouldn't have to deal with this. Ok, calm down Kanaye. She doesn't want to hear about your familial problems.

"Whoa, sounds impressive!" Shiori said, amazed. All her family had that was noteworthy was... well, nothing, really. Aside from her brother being set to inherit their grandmother's fortune, anyway. But even then, that wasn't as big of a deal as inheriting a business. Especially one that was well-known (or somewhat, anyway).

Groaning when Satou brought up her siblings and his wish to have some, Shiori exclaimed, "You can have mine! Ayumu-niisan is more like an uncle than a brother, and Ren-chan and Nobu-chan can be so annoying!"

Teasingly, she added, "Wanna babysit them for me one day?"

Kanaye smiled. It seemed to be his default expression.
"For you, no, but I don't see why I can't help you with it."
Having reached the bottom of the car park, he turns questioningly towards Shiori.
"Alrighty then, where exactly are we going?"

Shiori weighed the possibilities of what could happen. They would either decide they loved him and would hang off of him, or they would decide they hated him and would hang off of him. Both lead to them not hanging off of her.

"Sure!" Shiori smiled brightly. "They'd really like that, I bet."

Stretching once they exited the car ramp, Shiori looked over at Satou-senpai.

"Huh? Oh, it's this way," she said, nodding towards the right. "It isn't too far from here. Have you really never been there before, senpai?"

"Nope," Kanaye responded as he started walking in the direction Shiori indicated. "Heck, I didn't even know this place existed until you told me."
Kanaye went silent. Maybe that's too heavy-handed?
"I-I mean not that I think it's lower then me, it's just that I've never heard of it. I would've went if I knew it existed and wanted some food..."
Smooth.

"Not everyone likes American food. It's fine!" Shiori giggled, though she began to feel even more guilty. Really, she should have sucked it up and just said they should go out for noodles. Who didn't like noodles, after all?

((Timeskipping, because I'm lazy.))

Eventually, they arrived at the small little fastfood joint. Already, Shiori could smell the cooking burgers and she bounced on the balls of her feet eagerly.

"They're really good!" she said. "Cheap, too. I'm sure you'll like it!"

"Might as well try a burger if you're here," Shiori said, before coming up with a brighter idea. "We could go dutch or something and just buy a bunch of food, so you can try a little of everything?"

Because, as she looked at the menu, Shiori couldn't decide what she wanted. There were so many options - so many different kinds of food that she didn't eat on a regular basis and had yet to try. Oh, she was getting eager to try something new!

"No, no, no, no! I am going to pay for you; It's traditional, after all. Get whatever you want, I have enough." Kanaye insisted, pulling out his wallet and opening it for emphasis. Probably not the brightest ideas, but he could probably outrun any thug that would attack him. Probably.
"I'll probably just get a hamburger. Nothing too fancy."

Traditional? Yeah, maybe for a date. But they weren't on one. They were just going out for lunch. Nothing date-like about that. They were just classmates, that were...

...

Ah, right.

Well, it'd be rude to make a big deal about him paying and kind of being an insult to protest, so Shiori instead chirped, "If you insist~" and went back to studying the menu.

"I'll get... ohh, a chicken sandwich sounds good. I'll get that," Shiori decided. "Satou-senpai should get fries too though. They're really good!"

"I do insist." Kanaye said with his trademark smile. He then walked over to the counter, ordered, waited a bit, and then got his order and brought it to a table. It was one of those tables that only have two seats and are next to a window that every fast food restaurant seems to have.
"Well, now or never.." Kanaye said with a dramatic gulp. Satisfied with the resulting tension, he bit into the burger with such seriousness that if it were animated, it would have five different camera angles and color schemes.
"...Not bad." Kanaye finished with a satisfied smile.

Having gone to claim a table while Satou ordered, Shiori helped pass the time by looking out the window. There were more people out than usual, but it was a Sunday after all. There would be a bigger crowd.

Looking over when Satou came back with the tray of food, Shiori reached for her sandwich and unwrapped it before looking up at Satou's announcement. Giggling, since he looked like he was about to drink poison or eat glass, Shiori waited for his decision before picking up her sandwich.

"You like it then?" she asked. "For American food, anyway?"

Taking a bit of the chicken sandwich, she chewed thoughtfully for a moment before humming happily.

"Oh, this is really good!" Shiori announced. Taking another bite, she waited a moment before speaking again. "I think I like these better than the burgers. Wanna try it?"

"Good!" Shiori beamed. Ignoring the potential germ hazard (because a flirt like him couldn't possibly have gotten something... contagious), Shiori resumed eating her sandwich. Chewing thoughtfully for a moment, she hesitated.

"So, um..." she began rather awkwardly, at a loss for what to say. Conversation with Keiichi had come a lot easier than this - maybe it was because of hers and Satou-senpai's age difference, however small it may be? Or something? There had to be something they had in common...

Kanaye could see that the girl was at a loss for words. Odd, that. He didn't expect someone as loud as her to not know what to say.
"So, are you planning on becoming an artist? Or is drawing just a hobby?" He asked while clasping his hands and supporting his head with them.

Ah, art. Now there was something she could talk about..!

"Definitely planning on going pro," Shiori said with a nod. "Once I'm out of high school, I'm moving to Tokyo to make it big there. I'm going to be famous one day!"

Arrogant and cocky, maybe, but Shiori had to have faith in herself. Her family certainly didn't think she could do it, and with the lack of support from them she had to overcompensate for herself.

"You won't have to worry about not being rich unless you like the starving artist stereotype, with your talent." Kanaye said, chuckling. "I'd appreciate it, thanks. They'll all want to meet you, ya know. Maybe one of them will want to marry you? That's a good way to get rich fast."

"He'd have to be famous then," Shiori said solemnly, as though she had given it a lot of thought when really she was just making it up as she went along. "If I'm going to marry a guy for money, then I'd want to do it for recognition too. No one would care if I married some average rich guy."

She laughed, plucking a few fries from Satou's tray and biting into them delicately. As good as her sandwich was, the fries really were the best part of this place.

"Celebrity is over-rated. If you want everyone hounding after you, go ahead, but me, I'll probably just stay in my office, dawn til dusk, doing boring work while talking with my janitor." Kanaye nodded seriously.

"Oho~ Sounds like an affair to me! But why the janitor? Why not the secretary?" Shiori teased, taking another bite of the stolen fries.

Mimicking his pout, Shiori sulkily responded to his whine with an equally whiny, "You could have asked..."

And then she giggled again. Really, he did have the flair for the dramatics. Unless... unless he was seriously offended.

"I can go buy more," she suggested.

Kanaye smirked.
"Because secretaries are horrible conversationalist. The janitor knows what's going on. He knows the company more then I do. He probably knows where my father used to hide the sake." Kanaye then shook his head.
"No, no, no, if you want more, I can buy more. I don't have any shortage of money, you know."

"Ah, right, right~" Shiori said, stroking her imaginary beard tapping her chin thoughtfully. "You might get a really cranky lady for a secretary, too. She wouldn't even let you slack off or talk to the janitor - just always tell you to get back to work."

She narrowed her eyes in an imitation of her least favorite teacher - the one that never let her get away with pretending to take notes, like she usually did.

Her gaze softened somewhat though as Satou-senpai insisted on buying her more if she was hungry. Guilty as she felt that he was still willing to buy her food, after already buying her a sandwich, it still seemed like an insult to argue that she could pay for it.

"Let's get another thing of fries to go, and we can walk around or something?" she suggested. "We can go to one of the other parks to see some real flowers."

"Yeah. My dad's secretary is a real bitch. Whenever I visit dad, I have to be quiet and wait, like, an hour for him to get done with whatever he's working on. The janitor's nice, though." Kanaye nodded, sagely.
"I like that idea." Kanaye nodded in agreement. He's been doing a lot of nodding lately.
While buying the fries and waiting for the order to be finished, he noted that this has been a very successful not-date. From park to food to another park...far more then Keiichi can say. If this were graded, he'd have an A+. Let's get some extra credit, shall we?
Walking back with fries in hand, Kanaye asks "Is there a particular park you want to go to?" while giving Shiori the fries. "Or are we just gonna wander around aimlessly? I'm fine, either way."

Smiling up at him, Shiori went through the door and waited for Satou-senpai to continue through as well before setting off. He really was a gentleman, she had to give him that.

Humming to herself for a moment, she again wondered what to say. They didn't really have anything in common. Ugh, it'd be so much easier too if they did. At least people with similarities had something to talk about.

It went quiet once again. This was surprisingly quiet. Time to activate plan B.

With Keiichi's name came an accompanying blush on her part, and she immediately began to laugh nervously.

"U-um, both I guess. He randomly invited me and I accepted and... yeah," Shiori finished lamely. "He's really nice though. I'm glad he invited me."

She smiled, being quick to add, "I'm glad that we're hanging out too though, senpai! You're a lot of fun to hang out with!"

Even with the whole persona thing (whatever it was), she'd still probably be the loner that came to school only to draw. Keiichi and Satou-senpai were the ones she seemed to talk to the most, and while Aoi-san was pleasant enough it seemed Shiori barely saw her.
