Who: Hana & Yoshimi
What: Gym class injuries. Possibly "injuries."
When: Monday.
Where: Hana's office
Why: Yoshimi is obvs one of Hana's favourites.

"Yoshimi-chan, you're looking worse off than usual," Hana said by way of greeting. It was amiable enough, certainly not meant to be insulting, and had probably been said often enough that it no longer was. The school nurse was familiar with Yoshimi. Unsurprising, really - the school nurse was familiar with all of the students who fell down flights of stairs as just part of the course of the day.

"What is it this time? I don't see any blood, but why don't you keep me company and I'll write you a slip for class later?"

"OZAKI-SAN~" she wailed, full of youthful vigor and also caffeine.

"I was trying to staple a paper for my English class, but then I slipped and I stapled it to my hand!" Yoshimi held up her right hand, which did bear the aforementioned staple...and the aforementioned paper. "And I'm scared to pull it out because I'm worried that it'll start bleeding a lot, like that time last month with the bulletin board and the nail gun." She frowned at the memory: eternal proof that friends don't let friends drink and operate power tools, though she left that particular detail out of the official retellings.

"The good part is that Ishino-sensei was really understanding about it!" Read: terrified that her student had grievously injured herself and needed to seek immediate medical attention. "I think she'll be okay if I just drop it off after school today or something, so I can stay for a while."

"YOSHIMI-CHAN~" she wailed in return, covering her mouth with her hands in a horrified gesture. Cooing and squeaking, she bent over the girl to inspect the greivous injury, then pivoted and tore open the drawer to her desk. She next faced Yoshimi with a determined expression and a staple-remover, which she clicked as she approached.

She had almost reached Yoshimi when she seemed to think better of this plan and retrieved a pair of smaller, sterile tweezers instead.

"This isn't as bad as the nail gun, though, I don't think! And-- wow, is this your paper? You'll get an A for sure if I can get it off without you bleeding all over it! I like the title!"

She was just about to go to work removing the paper when once again a new thought occured to her, and she returned with some mild local anasthetic, the kind often used for picking splinters, applying it delicatly to the area and avoiding Yoshimi's paper. Like Yoshimi, she also hadn't thought to remove it.

While Yoshimi was a true bro who feared nothing, not even death, she found the sight of the staple-remover to be...somewhat disconcerting. Which is to say that she looked like a deer in the headlights right up until the aforementioned office supply was exchanged for the tweezers. She was grateful when the subject changed to her paper and offered her a distraction.

"Thank you~!" she squealed, exceedingly proud of her essay on the homoerotic subtext found in A Disunited Serenity. Her passion concerning the subject matter had given her an uncharacteristic burst of patience, and all in all she'd managed to produce an exceptional paper for someone who was typically a C- student.

And then she'd stapled it to her hand, which was a good bit more typical for her.

"So how've you been?" she asked, having avoided her usual set reasons to visit the nurse's office (falling down stairs, running into doors, impaling herself on anything even remotely sharp, trying to pass hangovers off as an out-of-season case of the flu, and getting her arm stuck in a vending machine were the five most common) for the last week or so. "We should catch up!"

Hana stopped what she was doing as soon as catching up was mentioned.

"Oh, yes, we should catch up!" she chirped, practically jumping into a seated position on the examination bed after having picked the staple only halfway out. It appeared to be momentarily forgotten.

"I haven't been able to talk to anybody except those rotten girls outside the bathroom," she lamented in a squeaky, pathetic voice. "You have to tell me what's been going on, I can't even keep up with the students and the faculty anymore."

Yoshimi would never admit it to herself, because it was something that catty, popular girls did, but she loved to gossip. The girl hopped up onto the examination bed, putting aside all thoughts of the half-removed staple.

"Satou-senpai's ex, the pretty artist girl, just got back in town again, but I don't think that they're getting back together. Someone caught him on a date with Akuba the other day." She shrugged, idly swinging her legs back and forth. "Which is weird, since I thought that she was a lesbian for sure. She totally has a thing for that pink-haired girl from my class. I'm, like, positive." Yoshimi shot the nurse a conspiratorial wink, then moved on to the next subject.

"Which reminds me! You heard the stunt that Aoi pulled over the PA system, right!?" Publicly, Yoshimi had taken the incident with as much grace as could be expected, but under the veil of top secret girl gossip...she made a hand gesture that could best be described as trying to choke a bitch. "I wanted to strangle her!" she exclaimed, just to clarify.

"Kanaye-kun? Did he get caught groping girls on a train? One of the teachers swears up and down he saw it happen - maybe that's why the artsy girl is staying away... though does she have the sense for that?"

Hana pondered the last question for a moment and seemed to notice the half-removed staple. With a squeak of apology she rushed off the bed and hurried to finish removing it as she spoke.

"She doesn't really have very many brains, does she? I mean, not like you or me, she's such a ditz!" Hana did not appreciate the irony of saying this about someone while having just left a paper half-stapled to somebody's hand.

"Kozue-san said that nothing happened on the train, but, I mean, he could totally have threatened her into staying quiet." Yoshimi was, as always, wary of anything involving male-female relations. "They're both in the Anti-Bullying Club with me and, like, he totally called her a whore at one of the meetings. For no good reason! So I wouldn't put anything past him."

Now staple-free, she went back to wildly gesturing about Misaki.

"She's so brainless!" Actually, Misaki probably got better grades than Yoshimi did, but the latter had never been one to worry about little details. "And I do not chase boys off," she growled. "That is ridiculous. I don't see her with a boyfriend, and it's not my fault that mine..." She sighed, then changed the subject with all of the grace that she used to climb stairs and staple papers. "A-anyway, did you hear about the letters that Ishinomori-kun started getting last week?"

Hana nodded ponderously, playing out a dramatic scene involving blackmail and lots of zoom-ins in her mind.

"He did? Ooo~, I was always wondering if he was just the flirtatious type or if he really didn't respect women."

Hana attempted to apply a bandaid to one of her wildly gesturing hands, apparently without thinking to try to hold it still. At the sigh, she got it on, but frowned in concern at her patient.

"Letters? No, I spent most of last week looking through cupboards in the staff room." For any leftover belongings and confirmation (or any evidence, really) of her pet theory that Ishino and Ito senseis were having a torrid affair.

"Didja find anything juicy?" Yoshimi was finally distracted from her rant about the evils of Aoi Misaki. Grown-up gossip was the best kind of gossip.

"And yeah, letters! Love letters, too, from a secret admirer. Isn't that crazy?" She cocked her head to one side. "Not that he's what I'd call bad-looking or anything, but half of the boys at this school look like models. So I have concluded that the admirer's love must be pure and true." She nodded at this, clearly an expert on all things romantic despite having been on all of four dates in her life.

"And now I'm getting letters, but mine are kinda creepy..."
