The Lunch King!
Who: Ayumu and Emi!
What: Just some middle schoolers over lunch. Nothing too exciting.
When: Thursday, lunch, sometime before Ikeda-san's dungeon
Where: The middle school cafeteria
Why: Why not? Who am I kidding. It'll be exciting. Middle schoolers, go!

For Ayumu, the most wonderful period of the day had to be lunch. He tried to get to the cafeteria as early as possible in order to avoid most of the lines and in order to enjoy his food period for as long as possible but sometimes the class right before took too long. The history teacher liked to prattle.

Today, however, was a glorious day that involved being one of the first kids in line. While it was (sadly) not curry day (every day should be curry day!!), udon was still tasty. Better than the instant noodles he and Mihari sometimes cooked up in their room (maybe those things weren't even fit to be called instant noodles when the two of them were done with them...). Ayumu slid into his seat across from his roommate, greeting the other friends that came to join them when he suddenly had a very shocking and horrifying realisation.

"Mihari!" he yelped, slamming his open palms onto the table and causing his udon to slosh around in the bowl. "I have forgotten my strawberry milk! A king's day is not complete without his strawberry milk!!" He pointed a finger dramatically at the line. "Quick! You are an expect at cutting lines! Fetch me a strawberry milk and I will see to it that you are rewarded for your troubles!"

With a mock salute, Mihari scrambled to his feet and disappeared into the growing crowd of students.

Ahhh~ A king can never rest easy!!

She had been planning her actions for quite some time. Even though Emi usually brought her own lunch to school everyday, she had been getting in line and pacing herself until finally she reached the day when the last strawberry milk was hers. There were plenty of other things on her mind, especially with all of the concerned discussion going on amongst the team or persona users, but she had been waiting far too long for this sort of opportunity to arise. Today would be the day she would have Murata Hideki's autograph in her grasps.

Hideki's younger brother was only a year above herself, but she knew just asking him to get his brother's autograph for her wouldn't have gone over well. She had heard from plenty of other girls that he tended to decline when asked for whatever reason. He was probably a jerk. But the ever-so observant Emi had came up the perfect way to bribe him into getting one for her.

With the carton of milk gently clutched behind her back, she calmly approached the table. She kept posture as dignified as always, showing little interest in the people at the table before glancing at Ayumu. "You're Murata, right?" Yes, she knew very well he was Murata, but at the same time she knew she needed to ease into the conversation properly.

Mihari had returned with sad news. Terrible news. Devastating news. News fit to make a country mourn for weeks on end.

No more strawberry milk.

Granted he could certainly go to one of the numerous vending machines on campus and get one of the bottled milks from there but the strawberry milk in the carton tasted the best and you could totally blow bubbles in it. And by the time he had managed to track down the vending machine that had strawberry milk well... the best time of the day would be near spent and he wouldn't have time to enjoy it.

But then beautiful, blessed, sweet, charming Airi-chan offered him some of her strawberry milk and the day looked just a bit brighter. "I don't mind if I do~~" Ayumu chimed. If this had been an anime or a manga or something, tears would be streaming down his face. Ah~ What an angel Airi-chan is!

He was about to set down his chopsticks and reach for the offered milk when the gazes of his friends across the table shifted to behind him. No one is supposed to look behind the king.

"You're Murata, right?"

No one was supposed to lurk behind the king, either!

Ayumu turned around, a bit surprised to see a small blonde girl standing behind him. And what a boring expression this girl had. No one should have a boring expression in his his presence. Girls should just never have a boring expression in general because that would lead to wrinkles. "I am he," the boy intoned in his best imitation of her voice. "How might I assist you this fine lunch hour?" It was an effort not to break out into giggles at trying to be so serious.

Emi merely rolled her eyes at the boy's tone. It wasn't the first time she had been mocked in that manner, especially by people her own age. They just didn't get it, but they were just an immature bunch of nose-picking morons to her anyway. She'd like to think they'd grow out of it one day, but.... she knew very well that high schoolers really weren't that much better now. In fact, sometimes they were worse. So, she looked at him with unspoken disgust with the knowledge he'd probably never grow up.

Still, she held back what she really wanted to say. She couldn't ruin her efforts so quickly. "I need a favor." Emi began. "Your brother is Murata Hideki then? That's what everyone says..." She paused briefly to think of a better excuse for her request than 'I love your brother and I want his autograph for the shrine on my closet door.'

"My mother wanted me to ask if you could get his autograph for her. If you promise to get one for me, I'll make it worth your while," she said flatly, bringing forth the carton she had behind her back in one hand and a bendy straw in the other. "It's the last one."

Ayumu couldn't help but frown and pout as he saw Emi's eye roll. That really was so uncute. But even worse... this girl was asking him a favor? He loved doing favors. Not just because it meant that they would have to repay him down the line, nooo. But it just meant that those people were coming to rely on him as their King! And if it meant spreading the love to his subjects, he would gladly do any favor.

Except--

"Oh. Right. Hideki-nii..."

For favors dealing with his brother.

Another one of those girls, huh? The frown/pout deepened and he turned back to his udon and picked up his chopsticks. "Yeah, he's my brother." Her mother? How many times have I heard that one before. I guess the better question is how many of them weren't lying... Ayumu knew that housewives ranked high among his brother's doting fans.

He was about to refuse the offer when the collateral was announced: Today's last strawberry milk and a bendy straw. His eyes lit up, then he looked up at the girl standing behind him. "You had me at the bendy straw. For this lovely addition, I'll be willing to get him to address it to you--r mother."

With a polite nod of his head, he reached out for the carton of oh-so-sacred strawberry milk and the totally awesome bendy straw. "What name should I have him make it out to?"

For a moment there she was worried he was going to turn her down even with the offer. The pout on his face surely hinted towards that, but it seemed her plan had worked just fine. She thanked herself inwardly for liking bendy straws herself and always having on with her at lunch.

She had been doing her best to keep a proper expression on her face, so she held in her excited grin even though a small smile did appear on her face for a moment as she handed the milk over to Ayumu. It was nice to have something go her way and not try to kill her or others for once.

"Um..." She hesitated to give her name. Most likely, the boy probably hadn't even heard of her, but the what if factor made her consider other options for a moment. Should she give her mother's name? Her family name? Should she just make up a name. Neither of those options really satisfied her. She knew the more she hesitated the more fishy it would seem. "Just tell him to make it out to Emi."

With another bob of his head in thanks, Ayumu took the milk and straw and placed them on the table next to his udon. Then he pulled out his cell phone and opened up a new document. "E-mi," he muttered to himself, then held it out to the little girl behind him. "Written like this?" He knew some people who didn't like the character for 'mi' because, even though it meant beautiful, it was written "big sheep".

"I'll get it from Hideki-nii this weekend since I'll be going home. What's your name and class so I can give it to you on Monday." Which pretty much equated to "so I don't have to hold onto something that can get me mauled any longer than need be". Some of Hideki's fangirls seemed to have a sixth-sense that could detect his autograph when Ayumu was delivering it to someone else. He only hoped the other fans wouldn't attack this poor girl for it. "Or if you would prefer to find me during lunch again or after class. I've got drama club on Monday so you can always find me in there easily." ("Not that it's ever hard to find you," Mihari joked, and Ayumu couldn't help but grin.)
