Who: Noriko and Yuuto
What: Smoke break, brb.
Where: Outside the hotel.
When: Sometime during the trip.
Why: Cancer. THAT'S WHY. And because social interaction is good.

Noriko stood across from the hotel, another one of her cancerous sticks hanging loosely between her lips as she gazed around slowly. The look on her face was one that just screamed excitement, anyone who caught a glimpse of her just knew that she was dying from the good time she was having. Or something like that, anyways.

Lifting her camera to her eye, she peered into it for a moment before reaching up with her free hand to focus the lens. After a moment, she snapped a picture of a couple talking near by, focusing on their hands instead of of their faces. After a moment, she let her hand drop away and sighed, shoving the camera back into the canvas bag that hung on her shoulder. So far, she hadn't really found any amusement, though she supposed that was her own fault. But being social was just oh-so-hard.

And, geez, did she really try.

She took the cigarette from her lips and flicked the ashes off before bringing it back and inhaling the toxic smoke once more.

So, today had gone fairly well. And by well, he meant less than had hoped for. Things went Not As Planned, and while it wasn't enough to make him feel completely miserable, Yuuto wasn't in the mood to deal with a lot of people for a while. Solitude however, wasn't much of an option during a school trip. He had to settle for 'less people', which was currently outside of the hotel.

After checking for any teachers that could have been nearby (they probably wouldn't approve of students smoking), he lit himself a cigarette, inhaling deeply before blowing out smoke. Huh, seems that he wasn't exactly alone out here...but it wasn't anything that would have bothered him much.

"Out here for a smoke too?"

She hadn't really expected anyone to "join" her outside to smoke though she supposed she shouldn't have been surprised. It wasn't as if she was the only one on the trip who smoked and that she knew. Though, she was aware that there was a high possibility of her being one of the only girls on the trip who smoked.

"Nothing better to do," came her reply, the cigarette dangling as she spoke. She moved it between two slender fingers, letting the smoke dance past her lips as she looked over at Yuuto. "Thinking about quitting. Boys don't like it and I'm all about pleasing the male population." she flashed a smile, quick and fake.

Ah, he recognized that. Maybe this one would be entertaining enough that his day felt a better, even if just by a little. He blew out smoke, slightly disappointed that he didn't manage to make it ring-shaped.

"Really now?" he said, in a flippant sort of manner. Chances were she could detect subtle sarcasm. "I've heard there are guys who like the taste of nicotine and ash."

Noriko turned to face him, a brow quirked as she flicked the building ash off her cigarette.

"That's delicious, I should be just perfect for them," came her reply. "Who knows, maybe they'll love me even more when I end up having to get an electrolarynx. Maybe there's a phone service just dedicated to those fetishes that I could join later on in life." she took another drag of her cigarette, one delicate brow still arched.

By her tone and the expression etched across her face, those who didn't know her very well could have sworn she was being serious.

Yuuto was already feeling quite at home. Her type of people, she figured, were usually consistently interesting, at least until they ran out of things to say. And that normally took a while, too.

"Haha, that so?" He tapped some ash of his cigarette. "But suppose you do get an electrolarynx, I bet your voice would sound weird."

If she wasn't trained so well in the art of being grave while joking around, she would have cracked a smile. She had to admit, Yuuto was amusing her.

"What? No way, having a robot-like voice would be the highlight of my life," she answered, giving him look that one could read as "best be jokin'".

Although, she really supposed that having an elextrolarynx would be more interesting not because she had a robot voice but because she actually had an excuse not to use it. Not to talk to people, especially those who annoyed her.

"Would it? I suppose it'd be kind of cool if they actually manage to make it sound like a real person, though."

...Not that he really wanted to know. He liked his voice as it was, thanks. Even if all that smoking was going to catch up to him eventually. The conversation so far had been amusing, and it was nice to know there was someone else who at least got some of his nuances.

"But then people would be able to talk to you without being freaked out," Noriko replied, "and that wouldn't be much fun. However, I don't think we'll have to worry about getting electrolarynx's."

Noriko quirked a brow before lifting up her shirt a bit, exposing the white nicotine patch stuck to the skin on her hip.

"I'm quitting smoking, you know," she replied, very serious, as she took another drag of her cigarette, letting her shirt drop back down. "Or, there's the possibility of dying before we have to get an electrolarynx."

Yuuto took a glance at the patch for a moment. He had never honestly thought about quitting seriously, and he doubted even if he tried that it would work for long. There was only so much that could keep his fixation satisfied.

"Can't say you're doing a very good job of it," he said, shrugging. "And maybe I'll live long enough for that to happen."

"I fail at most everything I do," she replied with a sweet smile before flicking her cigarette to the ground and grinding it out, exhaling a spiral of smoke.

"Maybe," she toyed with the idea. "Or maybe they'll invent a cigarette that won't kill you. But everyone's clamoring for the live fast and die young life style nowadays, don't you know?"

...Huh. Even though his own cigarette was burning down to the butt, Yuuto didn't really bother to dispose of it yet. He was into smoking mostly because it was something he could chew on, after all.

"Hah, we can only dream of that," he said, referring to her remark about the cigarette. "And I wouldn't want to die young either. Would be pretty unnatural, all things considered."

She glanced toward the hotel, beginning to toy with the strap of her bag idly now that she didn't have a cigarette to occupy her hands.

"Or it could be natural," she shifted her gaze back over to him. "Depending on your "destiny". That, of course, could be nothing but a myth like many things in this wonderful world~"

"I say 'unnatural' because it'd be pretty ironic if I died before my old man." Well, maybe not ironic, just weird. 70-something year olds should not be as fast as his grandfather was. "And I suppose it's a myth depending whether you believe in it or not."

"Oh?" she blinked, moving her hand away from her bag to tuck a few strands of hair behind her ear. She left the myth comment alone, not really sure herself if she believed in that or not.

She thought of her father for a moment, before shrugging again.

"I guess so. But what a wonderful name~ "old man". How respectful," a light teasing tone colored her voice again.

"Well, he is an old man. Even he would admit that," he said, finally deciding to get rid of cigarette, grinding it out against the a wall. "Not that I'd call him that straight to his face."

Funny, his grandfather didn't really mind if he found out he was being referred to as an 'old man' -- just not in front of him, because that was an entirely different issue. That was called 'having no manners'.

"Really?" Noriko raised a brow. "What do you call him to his face, then?"

Wasn't she being nosy? But she supposed it was just a harmless question, it wasn't as if she were trying to delve deep into his past or anything. That was something even she didn't want to bother people about in fear that they might ask about hers.

And then she'd have to go on a long winded rant about things that she knew people wouldn't care about. That wouldn't be any fun. Besides, she was a private person.

"Just grandpa," he said, shrugging. He didn't mind telling that to people -- it wasn't exactly personal or private in the first place. Though, if she decided to probe any further for whatever the reason, Yuuto would have to change the subject.

Because really, who wants to know about all of that?

"Ooh, I had no idea you live with your grandparents..." it was a simple statement, she didn't seem as if she wanted him to continue talking about his home life.

"I think I'm gonna head back in before someones report me missing," she glanced back at the hotel, wrinkling her nose slightly. "I'll see you around, Yuuto-kun."

And with that being said, she shuffled off and back into the building.
