Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Everyone.
WHAT: Called down by the teacher.
WHERE: Room 2-C.
WHEN: After school, first day of mindwipe (which is a wednesday).
WHY: Big Brother Is Watching.

Ishino has called everyone down to 2-C with the following announcement: "The Anti-Bullying Club has really been floundering, so you've all been selected to participate. Meetings are every Wednesday after school. You should all introduce yourselves and we'll get down to work next week."

A little strange - the anti-bullying club is obviously the most pointless club in the school, but Ishino has given her marching orders and left before anyone can ask questions, if they were even going to.

Renju was unimpressed. Even with her occasional feeble attempts at clubs, she'd never even been tempted to try this one. Even she knew how utterly pointless it was.

But she might as well introduce herself, since she was stuck with it. "Sonozaki Renju, 2-B." Her bow is stiff and slightly mechanical, her voice flat.

"Sonozaki-san. You're here as well?"

Kou bowed his head in greeting. Renju was in his class, and she was somebody he knew to be as quiet an individual as he was. Probably neither of them found a point to this club but he was trying to make his stay as comfortable as possible.

Toru knew coming to school that day was a bad idea. Of course he had to be drafted into the stupid Anti-Bullying Club- a club that sure had kept him wanting to come to class this past year. He was near the back of the room, slouched over a desk, with more attention payed to his fancy phone than to anybody else.

"...mmm? Oh, I'm Ishinomori Toru. 1-B," he muttered before going back to his game.

Isao had to be nudged awake at his desk and notified of the announcement before he reported in. He figured he would've been late. Much to his surprise there was only three other people in the room. He gave a half-hearted grin and a wave to them before plopping down in the nearest seat.

Anti-bullying club seemed pretty pointless, so hopefully this wouldn't last long. Or... maybe at least they wouldn't have to do too much.

Toshimi smiled graciously at them all. This would look good on her college record, and that would certainly please her uncle. "My name is Nawanaka Toshimi, and I am very gratified to meet you all," she said with a sickening amount of sugary cheer.

Kozue had taken up a spot in a chair, crossed her legs, and split her attention between text messages from her phone, and what Ishino was going on about. She looked up, from underneath the hair that had fallen into her eyes, and bobbed her head. It was out of rote politeness more than anything else; "Kondo Kozue. I'm in 1-B." As if that wasn't common knowledge––but, some of these people seemed like total social recluses. Like the boy from her class who couldn't be bothered to put down his phone.

Oh, a text had come in, she had to answer right away!

Really, Keiichi had no idea why he was here. He already had a Cooking Club to take care of, surely administration knew that. Well, probably not, considering membership was miniscule and the best he could get people to do was not burn down the school.

He looked around the group, more than a tad shy, eyes looking from person to person. "Ito Keiichi," he managed, forcing a bit of cheer into his voice. "2-B."

Kai looked around the room, feeling the pressure of being the "new kid" and fearing whatever he said next would be unbearably lame. He still had yet to make friends, even though he'd transferred in months ago, and he doubted this club would help him do it.

"Y-Yamada Kai, 2-B."

He turned his head downward, bit his lip, and fidgeted in his seat.

Tom didn't know why he was there, He didn't know why anyone was there. None of these people cared about anything outside himself.

He didn't want to be there either. It was pointless. It was equally pointless to be else where though. So he arrived, and sat silently, taking count of the people present, noting eye color hard to do when avoiding eye contact0, hair color, the way they sat, or moved. Something to do while the seconds ticked by. He wouldn't speak anymore then was necessary, and when it was over... then it'd be over.

It was peculiar, really. Why would anyone bother him to join the anti-bullying club? Was it some sort of odd irony? Well, it was amusing, and that was enough.

Reizo ambled into the room with the casual indifference of a person who thought they owned just about anything they laid eyes on, and took a seat at the head of the table after twisting the chair around so he could straddle it. He crossed his arms over the back of it and then propped his chin up on his forearms, frowning slightly around his toothpick at the odd feeling of deja vu.

“Shirai, Reizo. I'm pretty sure I'm the reason this club exists.”

Masami really wasn't sure why they had called her here. Sure she was fairly well known since she'd just taken the kendo team to their second straight victory at nationals, but shouldn't that count as an excuse to not need another random extracurricular "activity?" What did this club even do anyway?

She decided not to dwell on it. She'd just do what she had to do, and be done with it. She bowed her head politely. "I'm Masami Sakuraba, of class 2-B," she said neutrally. She considered adding something about her kendo club status but felt it might come off as bragging, so she just ended her introduction there and went back to paying more attention to her tea(chrysanthemum tea, one of her favorites) than to what was happening in the club.

Kouchisei had glanced up when Reizo entered.

"Not on your own, no."

His remark had been simple. That blasted Shirai - he'd heard of the younger male's reputation, and been on the receiving end of it. But he knew bullying wasn't the cause of one kid.

Then Masami spoke, and he shrugged. They were in the same class, but didn't really know each other.

Those gathered in the room feel ringing in the back of the minds accompanied by a sudden but fleeting feeling of familiarity with everyone, with this classroom. A voice echoes faintly above the ringing: "I'm glad to have met you all" - and then the sensation is gone.

Kiriko bristled. Her back straightened as her eyes darted perplexedly around the room, skimming everyone gathered there in search of some sort of answer. What was that? But of course, they wouldn't know - most likely she just needed some sleep. Her hands folded in her lap and she cast her eyes down, hoping she hadn't called too much attention to herself.

Toru had felt it, too. The whatever-it-was (a sensation of deja-vu? or something more?) hit him like it had during his argument with Noboru, and he dropped his phone on the desk with a clatter. He looked back and forth around the room, visibly shaken.

It seemed at least, that one other person there was, too.

It wasn't at all an unknown feeling to him, though maybe not to as great of an extent. Usually it had just been a matter of wandering around half-awake after a sleepless night. Memories usually improved sometime between after school coffee and a nap on the common room couch. So as for a club... Had they had a meeting before? The way the teacher made it sound, this was the first gathering. He frowned and looked around at the others trying to recall their faces. Isao recognized a few of them from just around school, but otherwise he was fairly certain they hadn't really met before. Only fairly certain though.

"I'm Shimohama Isao from 3-B," he finally introduced himself. May as well go ahead and ask. "This is the first meeting, right?"

Yoshimi jumped in her seat, the latest issue of Streamer forgotten for the moment. It wasn't uncommon for her to zone out and start fantasizing during school hours, but at least she was generally aware of having done so. That one had just come out of nowhere.

"Oh, right... it's the first one since we all got drafted, anyhow." She cast a few curious glances around the room, trying to find anything that could account for that wave of emotion. But there was nothing, just a random group of students from the B classes. Oh well.

"Tachibana Yoshimi. I'm from 1-B."

Tom quirked an eyebrow. He looked around the room slowly. He tried to avoid letting it be obvious that he felt it too. It was... strange, and if it effected everyone... that couldn't be right, could it?

He glanced to Ishino to see if that was on purpose.

Seiko hadn't introduced herself yet, mostly because she had been busy doodling horrifically cute pictures of kittens on her book, but when that strange feeling came across her and that odd echo she glanced around the other people assembled.

"Um, oh hi! I'm Yukizaki Seiko! It's great to meet you all!" Her voice was painfully saccharine and upbeat and she gave them all a wide beaming grin and the girly wave that accompanied it was done with equal enthusiasm.

"So what exactly are we meant to do, to like, prevent bullying?"

The strange feeling and voice surprised Masami, but she did her best to hide her reaction. Normally, she would go straight for her tea and hide behind the action of sipping it, and that was exactly what she did this time too.

It got her thinking though. What exactly had just happened? Why had she suddenly felt some camaraderie with this random group of people who she'd never really associated with before?

Maybe it was important somehow. Maybe it wasn't. Either way, it was easier to just wash away her worries with tea.

Misaki sat a bit to the side and closed the art book she had been looking at trying not to think about the images. After all she had promised to give up those silly designs. She glanced around the group as they talked and felt it seemed familar. Shifting some she said softly.

"I'm Aoi, Misaki, 1-B. Pleased to meet you all, I think."

Whatever had happened, the delinquent boy didn't seem to have noticed or felt it. About the only thing that might have given it away was the brief widening of his eyes and knitting of his brow. He drew a half-finished cigarette smoothly out of his breast pocket and lit it, and wriggled it around in his mouth when he wasn't actively taking draws off of it. The bright red sniper's dot of the cigarette seemed to focus on each person in the room, but that could've only been a coincidence.

"Shut your mouth, Oubai," he told the older boy with almost disquieting casualness, "unless you can tell me why in the hell we all got called in here. The obvious anomaly is me, but," he tapped the ashes of his cigarette off into a paper cup, "why the rest of you? Most of you don't really look the type to care or do jack shit about bullying."

Kiriko lifted a brow. It was true that she was hardly an activist and usually didn't care, but he knew as well as she did that she'd deflected him away from targets in the past and would likely do it in the future - though apparently they both had the sense to keep their mouths shut about it. The rest was just patently untrue, she thought as she looked around the room.

Pink haired Aoi from the cooking club and her creepy, less noticeable friend struck her as the kind of bleeding hearts who would be all over a club like this.

"I don't know what she wants," she said, finally, "But it's clear she wants something."

Any warning held in Reizo's tone seemed to have had no outward effect. Kouchisei looked at Reizo, and his emotionless nature only seemed to change when he briefly rubbed his chin. It was hard, being unable to do something about the other boy's behaviour. He rose from his chair and, with no pause in his stride, went to open the window and clear the air. Smoking was a disgusting habit.

"Whatever. It doesn't seem like a good cross-section of the student body. That's one thing Shirai and I agree on, at least."

It was amazing, really, the kind of accuracy Reizo had with something as unnaturally aerodynamic as a paper cup.

And how funny Kou looked with a nose covered in cigarette ashes.

"Shirai-who?"

Authority issues on the first day weren't allowed to happen. It'd set a very bad precedent.

There was a loud cough. Unremarkably, Kouchisei was not perfect with his reaction times. The lucky thing was that most of the soot had been stopped by his glasses. Whatever else had came to mind seemed to have been forgotten by the impact and subsequent movements; he removed his glasses and brushed the mess off his nose and chest with a quick sweep, then stooped down and plucked the plastic cup off the floor to deposit it silently on the windowsill.

The inability to respond without making the situation worse - at least by remaining quiet he could preserve whatever dignity and pride was left, and not make himself seem like a challenge.

Yoshimi watched the exchange carefully. Surely Kou had some reason for being so bold around Reizo, but she couldn't imagine what it was - unless the two were actually secret lovers trying to throw the rest of the room off their trail, in which case it all made perfect sense.

Still, even that theory didn't explain why they were all in the same room to begin with.

"Do you think Ishino-sensei just chose names at random or something?"

Reizo's eyes slid from the stuffy glasses guy to the glasses girl from his class. He recognized her -- it was hard not to recognize the girl who was constantly knocking over desks and seemingly fulfilling every nerd girl stereotype that he could strain himself to remember. He was pretty sure she had a small fanclub too, full of guys who looked mostly like that other nerd from their class, Ishinomori and would use the word "moe" seriously.

Reizo eyed her for a long moment, his cigarette switching sides in his mouth, and tilted his head.

"That seems like the easiest explanation, but I don't buy it for some reason. It feels like too-fuckin'-much to put me in here just 'cuz my name got picked outta some stupid hat."

This statement was enough to elicit a near-silent mumble from Toru. "...c-could be that you're supposed to be a liaison to the bullies here, perhaps... y-you know, equal representation and all."

But it was very quiet, and said mostly into Toru's own crossed arms rather than to the classroom. He had seen what Reizo had just done to Kou, and didn't want a repeat performance.

"I highly doubt," Renju remarked, the corners of her lips twitching downward, "that there's something Ishino-sensei is not telling us. She said that we would start next week, after all. This is utterly innocuous."

For a moment, her eyes had squeezed shut behind the large glasses, but now she gave no sign of the strange flash affecting her. Nor of the tableau between Kou and Reizo, as much as she might disapprove. "But the selection method, whatever it was, could stand to be improved."

Keiichi turned to the rather serious looking Sonozaki girl. "Why not make the best of it, then? It does seem slightly odd, considering I'm president of the Cooking Club, that I would be given another commitment."

Unsaid, of course, was "Maybe they know just how little I have to do these days."

Kou snorted, and he turned back to face the clubroom. People should be willing to do more to help themselves, he believed. There were responsibilities and roles that demanded you were at your peak.

Except that wasn't always possible.

"There's a place for everybody. Somebody's got to be at the top," he told Keiichi.
