WHO: Masami and Kou.
WHAT: Learning Kendo.
WHERE: Their sports club room.
WHEN: Immediately after school.
WHY: Self-defense.

Kou would have been far more likely to come here earlier if the captain had been a man. The thought of coming here had taken him aback, and he stood outside with his right hand resting on the door. It wasn't the fact she was a girl. It was because it was embarrassing to be beaten by somebody society viewed as weaker. Many he had encountered had possessed no logic or accountability. People like Ikeda had challenged his authority and trashed it. The conclusion was that what he'd been taught might be right, but it was becoming outdated.

The door was opened quietly, and a bit reluctantly. A world where he was obeyed and people weren't difficult was always nice for him. His father was the head of the household and his mother's role had been different, but society was changing that faster than the way it had been developing naturally. But he would rather learn off somebody strong, and if that was Masami then it was something he would endure. He had been proven wrong on several occasions and that was nobody's fault but his own.

He took a moment to look around the space and count the heads of people. Some were female. There were glances for the captain - if he'd come here, it was best that he learn, right?

Most of the rest of the team was in the kendo club's room, though a couple of the members had gone to help set up the gym for practice. Fortunately, this meant that a certain hot-blooded freshman was out at the time; unfortunately, it also meant that the kendo team captain was out. Seeing who was waiting at the door, Masami stood to take over.

"Oubai-san... Is there something I can do for you?"

His gaze moved to Masami, and it didn't wander. He observed how quiet it was and wondered where the rest of them were. They were people he would have to talk to; hopefully he wouldn't be expected to make too much small talk.

"I want to learn," he said firmly.

Now that was a surprise. She hadn't pegged Kou as the type to be interested in something like kendo. Something about him felt kind of... frail to her. Not at all the kind of person who'd handle a physically demanding sport like kendo well. Maybe she was wrong though.

"I can teach you the basics," she said, "But we should go and talk to Ueno-san about joining. She's the team captain."

There was a grunt of agreement.

Kouchisei hadn't factored on meeting the whole team; there was something about that amount of people he found intimidating. Masami was somebody he knew and trusted.

He looked around, trying to see where this Ueno was.
