[2-B's Culture Festival Group]
[Takes place during 2-B's homeroom. Kou is thinking to himself as he looks out the window at the schoolgrounds.]

Art and tradition is at the root of our culture.

I believe that this festival is the visible sign of a strong and thriving civilisation.

But the more our ways are spread, the more diluted they become.

"We should do something. It must be tactful," he says.

But at the same time, we should do something that people would actually want to participate in.

[Noriko has his notebook and pen out, looking rather intense.]

I'll be taking all of the good suggestions.

[Seiko is back in class with her arm in a bright pink cast, that she seems to have covered in glitter and drawn orange flowers on, and several stitches are visible on her face, she grins at the class.]

We need something bright and loud and attention grabbing, like when the school got glittered.

Haunted house? But...With sparkles...

I'm not sure if people want to relive that so soon, Yukizaki-san... But love the haunted house idea! It's definitely in the running!

[Noriko jots this down in the notebook.]

Well that kind of is why it should be in the haunted house, last thing you expect in a haunted house is a cascade of glitter.

[She looks concerned for a moment then shakes her head.]

Anyway I think we should make it a bit more showy than a normal haunted house, or whatever we decide, you need bright lights and neon colours to draw people in.

Oh, hmmm... you have a point.

Showy for sure! If we want to outdo the other classes, we need to add a special something to the haunted house. A theme. A style.

[Kou hated the thought of something bright and loud and attention grabbing. His expression was a cool one.]

When people get a little hungry, they buy food. That sounds vulgar.

We should add Sato's ghost.

Oh, like a memorial haunted house! It could be in the name of those we've lost this past year.

Yeah! People'll eat that up. I mean, how lousy would they feel if they didn't come to an attraction that was in the name of dead people?

Look, Oubai asked for tact, right? I can't do tactful and tasteful!

It wasn't tactful, either!

Vulgar and shameless. Don't you people respect the dead?

Oubai, your ideas won't get us any publicity. Something that flaunts conventions and stirs up controversy is much better.

This is a cultural festival. A haunted house isn't appropriate.

Ah Oubai don't be such a stick in the mud, haunted houses are totally cultural!

Haunted houses in relation to folktales are inhabited by disembodied spirits of the deceased. What you're proposing is the creation of Disneyland.

Oubai-san.

Disneyland isn't even part of our culture.

At other schools, haunted houses are really common...
But I think we should make it more fun. We only get one cultural festival!
Until the next one, anyway.

Oh oh!

I think we can jazz it up, oh! If we all have costumes, you know classy gothic ones, not creepy Frankenstein Monster ones, I do not want to paint myself green.
