Can't date out of order in a community!
Who: Kiriko Ikeda, Reizo Shirai
What: A bargain
Where: Nanakamado
When: Lunchtime, Wednesday. (Before the body is found)
Why: I don't know how to answer that.

She made her way over to his desk at the sound of the bell, slinging her bag over one shoulder. Better to ambush him now before his "buddies" came to meet him from the second year class - she'd never really thought much of Reizo, but she'd rather deal with him than his "friends." At least he wasn't some flunkie twit.

"You know they made me class rep, Shirai-kun," she began, one hand planted on her hip and her voice sounding bored more than confrontational. Though she did her best to look confident and unaffected, Kiriko was careful with her tone. She didn't want to sound as though she was picking a fight, whether or not she actually was - she wasn't sure if he hit girls, but also wasn't inclined to find out any time soon.

"And somebody already gave me a complaint about you."

His head snapped up and away from the video game he’d been playing when she spoke, and his eyes cut to a cold glare, worse than his usual, at the honorific. Scowling as he stood up, or rather unfolded his lanky frame out of the chair and loomed over her, the students watching all gasped in unison. His eyes jumped from the bored face of the new class rep and to the students clustered at the door and peaking in. Some of his lackeys were rubbernecking too. He whipped his handheld at them and they bolted.

“Expect more,” was all he said, brushing past the girl to bend down and retrieve the busted electronic. He popped the game out of it, inspected it briefly, then slipped both it and the broken handheld console into one of his pockets. He looked back at her, fingering the broken lump in his pocket and seemed to consider something before discarding whatever the idea was and disappearing out the door and into the hallway.

Thirsty, thirsty.

She frowned at his back as he stuffed the broken device in his pocket and walked out. What a wasteful kid. He must really be rolling in it to throw things around like that... not that she didn't know that anyway. After a moment's deliberation, she hurried after him - at a distance, of course.

"I'm not trying to tell you your business, but can't you pick on our senpai? They're mostly obnoxious anyway and I don't want any more work. Come on, Shirai, I got you straight As when we partnered up in Science last year."

Sure, she only chose to partner with him because she wanted someone who wouldn't mess her work up by trying to help, but they both came out top of the class anyway...

“I’m already doing that,” he sneered, not bothering to take even a cursory glance back at the girl. Some students seemed to press themselves closer to the walls of the hall as he passed by, but he showed no signs of noticing or giving half a damn. He stopped at the double vending machines they had set up in the hall, and tilted his head to one side as he perused the contents.

When she got to his side he finally looked over at her.

“Got an 100 yen coin?” he asked, but the way he held out an open palm expectantly and stared at her made it a demand. His eyes snapped up and down the tall girl, and he seemed to finally recognize her.

“And I expect you’ll be doing the same this year if the opportunity arises, eh?”

She clicked her tongue, looking annoyed but fishing through her purse. 100 yen really wasn't really anything to her anyway, but she hated being ordered around, however implicitly. Still looking indifferent, she pressed the coin into his palm and walked up to the second vending machine, putting in one to get herself some Sierra Mist.

"Maybe. Asano-chan seems pretty useless, I could probably partner with her this year for the same results."

She looked over at him, vaguely surprised he didn't just kick over the machine to get what he wanted.

"So why don't you help me out just this once and lay off the people in our class? Nobody there wants to make trouble for you, anyway."

He did, in fact, kick it when his drink got stuck on the lip of the fall, and several more times until it tumbled down and he could kneel down and retrieve it. He eyed it warily and opened it away from him--towards her-- and then took a long swig, glancing down the corridor. More people were staring at the two of them. Could it be the kicks or the girls? Maybe his reputation has grown.

“Only thing I’ve done is ask people for money for the vending machine. It’s just the fourth day,” he complained, before he walked away once again and made for the stairs up to the roof.

He stopped at the top of the first flight of stairs and looked at her over his shoulder, speaking between drafts of the drink.

“Keep hanging around me and people ain’t gonna think much of you, ‘class rep.’”

"Don't worry," she answered, following him after a disdainful glance at the pop that had overflowed from the can and fallen onto the freshly-waxed floors, "I'm pretty enough to get away with it."

"Did you ask them with your fists?" she asked innocently, "Or should I mark it down that they're making false reports?"

As she followed him, she considered what he said earlier. It was only the fourth day in and already the kid who sat across from her was making googly eyes whenever he thought she wasn't looking. Maybe doing something to make people think less of her wasn't a bad idea. Just partnering up for schoolwork probably wouldn't alienate anyone she gave a damn about or ruin her reputation, either.

"I'd rather not work with Asano-chan, you know. She's much too clingy."

“I’ve never -just- asked anyone anything with my fists.“

He paused again the top of the second flight of stairs, crushing the can and dropping it inside the trashcan in the corner and then looked down at her, still mid-step up to the fourth step. He regarded her coldly, and perhaps even a little smugly. Why was the pretty ice princess following after the delinquent? She probably wanted something.. And he didn’t think she was dumb enough to be pulling any of that anti-bullying shit on him. He glared at her a little more then took back to the stairs until he emerged out onto the roof. Several of the students milling around, all eating their lunches, froze for a moment.

“Why the hell are you following me, Ikeda?” He asked annoyed, eyeing the girl when he turned back around to her. He was -almost- impressed that she hadn’t wilted yet, but he was keenly aware that people realized he’d never been violent towards a girl. Intimidating and threatening, yes, but hitting one just hadn’t happened yet.. But things could always change.

She could tell he was sizing her up and responded with another cool, slightly impatient look.

"I told you," she began, choosing her words carefully. "I just don't want any extra work. I didn't ask for this class rep job, after all." Of course, she'd have been angry if it went to someone else since she was obviously the most qualified, but that was besides the point. "Plus, you're the best candidate I have for a lab partner this year and if you're getting kicked out of class all the time I'm going to have to work with somebody else."

She tossed her hair back over her shoulder and looked at him. She resented having to be so forward with her sales pitch, so to speak, but knew that neither of them really wanted their time wasted.

"So, I'm asking - do you wanna work with me and would you please not go after anybody in the class? At least not in any way that leaves visible marks?"

He lifted his eyebrows in surprise at the look she gave him, considered smacking the taste out of her mouth for it, but whirled around instead to disappear behind the side of the door they’d just come out of. He scrambled up to the top of the little roof of the door and took his newly-acquired (after scaring the previous owner) lunch spot, legs dangling over one side as he silently regarded the cityscape sprawled out in front of him. It was a impressive and awing to realize that his dad almost “owned” it, and in a few years he might as well.

He supposed it was only natural to take over this school first..

He was silent for a few minutes. She’d wait.

“Hilarious how the students always complain about me until delinquents from other schools start hassling them. Ain’t that the last time we spoke?” He sounded amused, but a little bitter too-- there was always something bitter in his voice, though. It was funny that he’d already dabbled in what he was to do as an adult when just in middle school. Protection, jeeze.

“If I stop asking OTHER people for pocket money, you’re the only one left I can ask. It’d be a bother to walk all the way up to the next floor just to find someone kind enough to spare me a hundred yen coin.”

Being petty could be fun.

She had a hard time supressing the smirk that pulled across her lips at that.

"Are you asking me for an allowance, Shirai-kun?"

Kiriko folded her arms. Cityscapes all looked the same to her - this one looked basically the same as the one she left to come to Nanakamado. The office buildings glinting in the sunlight reminded her of her father. If it came down to it, she didn't really have a problem spending his money on pop for Reizo, anyway - it would make everyone's life easier.

"I don't really care what you do to first year kids in the other classes. Oh, and you can pick on Miwa, too. He's a little shit and I'm ignoring him anyway. But," she chuckled, "if you feel like you have to try to extort me to make sure you're getting something out of it, I'm okay with that too."

“What’re you talking about, “extort”? I’m just fond of vending machine food and since I have to buy a new DS, I won’t have any change left over for any. Goodhearted people would naturally help a stand up guy like me out.

He dropped down at the sound of the bell and watched the other students file into the door, all casting nervous glances their way, one or two of the boys even managing to look a little jealous. He cocked an eyebrow at that and leaned in towards Kiriko, crowding her back against the wall with a cryptic smile before she could follow after them.

“My old man’s got a pretty big folder on you Ikedas. Pretty interesting stuff.”

He waited a few moments, eyes stuck to hers as he seemed to count down something in his head. A second bell rung, letting them both know class had started. Apparently her smart mouth had riled him enough to pick at her.

“Tardy’s not a game I expected you’d play.”

He pulled away from her and watched her expectantly, following close after her when she started to trail down the steps.

“I hope no one gets any funny ideas when you walk in late for class with a boy like me in tow.”

"You'll have to let me leaf through it later, Shirai," she answered cooly. She held his gaze for a few moments, then leaned casually back against the wall, flipping open her cell and checking for any missed messages and silently fuming at having been drawn into his silly game at all. Either way, she wouldn't show anything - that would count as losing. When she was finished, she pocketed her phone and looked back up at him with a quirked brow. When he backed off, she started down the steps.

"Shouldn't you worry more about yourself? You don't want people to think a good girl like me has her hooks in you, do you?"

She didn't bother picking up the pace. It wasn't anything to her if she was late, she already had her excuse ready and the teacher loved her regardless. Instead, she rifled through her book bag to make sure she had everything.

"Besides, it's not like we're walking into class all mussed up or anything."

“For the girl at the top of the class academically, you’re not very bright, are you?”

He stopped her at the door by taking hold of the back of her collar, took a long hard look at her, then spent the next few moments holding her still as he tugged her tie loose, and tousled her hair.

“Don‘t ever address me as kun again, hrm?”

With that he opened the door and pushed her in, following after with a smirk that disappeared when he shot a glare at the teacher and went to take his seat in the back of the classroom. He spent the rest of the class ignoring the furtive looks the boys of the class shot at him and staring hard at the back of the head of the one in front of him, trying to see if he could make him pee himself.

Should’ve got some chips before he went in..

She quickly regained her composure after tripping through the doorway, clearing her throat, and smoothing down her hair.

"I apologize for my tardiness," she explained to the teacher with a polite bow, "I was trying to fufill my responsibility as class rep by talking --" here, she paused for emphasis "-- some sense into our class's most hopeless case." After flashing a glare at Reizo's back, she resumed her seat as gracefully as she normally would, straightening her tie and taking out her notebook. As she did, she took consolation in noting that the boy who had been making googly eyes at her all week looked positively horrified.
