Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Tom and open
WHAT: Post confession
WHY: Tom is trying to figure things out
WHEN: Shortly after Seiko confesses.
WHERE: School Library

Tom had taken up a table in the corner of the schools library. Wholly unaware of how obvious he was being in comparison to his usual mostly hidden way of doing things. On the table in front of him sat self help books, romance novels, magazines. The same research he did before, he now poured over again intensively.

Seiko... liked him. And he had no idea what do about that now. He would have asked Kozue but after her ordeal in Paradise he wanted to give her a chance to work things out on her own. Everyone else... seemed just as confused by love as he was, just less willing to admit it.

There had to be some instruction, maybe something he could practice? Personal accounts of relationships. The whole thing seemed so very irrational. But Tom was determined to figure it out, and so he kept reading.

Opposing his routine of spending lunchtime on the rooftop, Kouchisei had eaten in the cafeteria and then arrived at the library to do something new.

Perhaps just this once, maybe.

The library was something he'd grown unfamiliar with using lately; he had come inside, cast his gaze left and right, and found his vision affected by deja vu. The chairs were there but invisible, and the clerk barely a presence. Sitting on the rooftop, rushing to the cram school and then home; he valued his education because everything he learned gave him power. But still he awaited the donation of a spine to confront a problem that wouldn't vanish.

So for now he was happy to sit surrounded by four walls and shelves, and to convince himself he was safe. Perhaps it would be amusing to him later when he walked towards the end of the room and didn't notice Sagaki sitting in the left-hand alcove. Or not, because Paradise was dangerous.

Kai had a good bit of work ahead of him before the idol contest, being slated to make both Kouki and Toru's costumes, and so he'd thought the library might contain some good inspirational materials to help him get more ideas. ...Also he hadn't felt like making the walk to the town library.

Walking softly, arms full of magazines and a design book or two, he noticed Tom and Kouchisei separately. Huh, his teammates. He supposed he should make more attempts to form bonds with them.

Tom seemed like the lesser of two strangers - he'd barely spoken to Kou, and at least he and Tom had had the combat run to get accquainted. Not to mention Tom appeared to be in posession of a magazine or two Kai really liked. A greeting couldn't possibly hurt.

He made his way to Tom's table, smiled, and said, "Hi, senpai. Is it possible for me to have one or two of those magazines you're looking at?"

Tom, was busy running a finger along the book. Without looking away from the book he grabbed the magazine off the table and hand it to Kai.

"It wasn't at all helpful. Suggesting ways for her to convince me to get over my fear of commitment. I don't have a fear of commitment, and it seemed almost manipulative. Is that what this whole thing is?" He looked up at Kai with a frown.

"And the costume images are mostly specific body types. I don't think it would help with your project."

Kai accepted the magazine, but seemed taken aback by Tom's brusque behavior...and what he was saying to himself.

"Are you alright, senpai? You don't sound very good." He cocked his head at Tom like he was gazing upon something unusual, intriguing, and slightly unsettling. All he'd needed to hear was "fear of commitment" to know that it was something personal, and while he thought Tom might not want to discuss it, Kai figured that it never hurt to lend a listening ear. "You wanna talk about it?"

He shrugged. "You never know. Looking at a bunch of different things can inspire something totally cool. ...And I'm making a dress, anyway."

Kouchisei looked around a bit, and then his eyes settled on Kai, just a little to the side. He peered at Tom. The American's shape was too tall - but deviants who did strange things in public didn't pay attention to function.

"Maybe Nanakamado should be hiring cross-dressing teachers," he said. "You want people to see you? The police will be talking to you next. You're not Hrgck."

He actually didn't want people making themselves look stupid. He wasn't cruel and he didn't like the idea of people laughing at them either.

Tom cocked an eyebrow at Kou. Honestly sometimes the things he said jut made no sense.

"I was suggesting that none of the costumes in the magazine matched with the body types he's making outfits for in the idol competition." Tom put a hand on his chin and looked up at Kai.

"Yamada-san, you're working with Seiko. What do you think of her?"

Kai felt uncomfortable and couldn't exactly say why. "It's...uh..." He wanted to say something to Kou about being more open-minded, but anything constructive died before it reached his throat. Did Kou think he was weird now? "...People are allowed to do what they want," he mumbled, looking anywhere but at Kou.

The thought that maybe saying this would imply that Tom was, in fact, a cross-dresser never occured to him.

"Seiko-san? I like her! She's really energetic and nice and friendly. She takes care of people. Why?"

Kou's gaze moved from Tom to Kai, and when he didn't know where to look he directed it to the window. People should be allowed to do what they wanted, he thought, but within reason. He wanted to train at medical school but he didn't want to leave home. There were limits.

Kai had just reached the end of his. He folded his arms and looked more intently out the window.

Tom eyed Kou slightly. Then looked at Kai.

"I... uh... no reason. I'm just... checking up on... the people in our club. It's like a survey. I'm rating... all of her, their interests, to determine their psychological make up, and see if they will be capable of handling the things we do... in the club." Tom slumped slightly. "she takes care of people." There is that. In the past Tom had found himself agreeing with many of the ideas that Seiko had put forward.

He looked back at the book for a moment. Was agreeing on tactics while fighting for your lives and the lives of your team a good thing when it came to relationships or a bad thing? Some of the texts suggested that opposites attracted, and some encouraged shared interests. It was like this love stuff was contradictory on purpose!

He felt no closer to any answers.

Kai nodded, though Tom's behavior made him suspicious. Better not to press in front of Kou though if it were something private. "That's...good. Do you need any help with that? I might..." He wasn't entirely sure what he was saying yes to, or what they were even talking about anymore, and went quiet. "If you're struggling, you might want to talk to Seiko-san yourself. I'm sure she'd be happy to help out with...the club however she could. And so would I, if you, uh, had anything for me."

He flashed Tom a peace sign accompanied by a smile. "I seem to be a beast for club participation, so just let me know if you need something."

Looking over, he noticed Kou staring out the window with arms crossed. "Are you in, Oubai-san?" It popped out before he could stop it.

Kou looked over, keeping his arms folded and his disinterest as the only expression on his face. It was going to be fun for others and he didn't want to take away from that since they had already ignored his concern for their welfare. They would have to learn.

"I'll look like a moron."

He shook his head and it was followed by a raised hand. There was no way he was going to participate in idol creation, so they could lose that idea right now.

Tom's mouth hung open for a moment at the suggestion of talking to Seiko.

"N-no, no I couldn't talk to Seiko... because... uh.... " Tom tried to think of a reason for why he couldn't talk to Seiko. Because she might be evil? Because it was her birthday? Tom frowned.

"Because I can't." Tom looked at Kou, hoping to see the subject changed.

"I can agree. I think I would also look silly involved in the idol competition. But it'll be..." Tom looked around unsure of who would be watching.

"I'll be there anyway, just in case something happens."

"She's not going to bite you! I'm sure it'll be fine." Kai tried to emphasize this statement by putting a reassuring hand on Tom's shoulder. "Or, if you really feel like you can't do it, maybe you could write her?"

"It looks like it'll be fun to me. I'm definitely going, at least to support my friend, Yoshida Kouki-chan. I'm making his costume, too, so I've gotta represent my work!"
