“What about that one, remember that one?” The Doctor questioned, pointing towards one of the many twinkling stars in the darkened sky above. It was a rarity that the pair ever did such a thing, merely stretch out on the grass and just look at the stars. In fact the Doctor didn’t remember a time when they’d ever done such a thing. It was actually kind of nice, for once. Glancing over the man when he snorted as if amused, the Doctor cracked a grin.
“I much prefer that one.” He pointed out, nodding toward another twinkling star knowingly. To be honest, from this distance neither of them could actually see any of the planets of stars, but their knowledge of the vast solar system in the universe was sound. If they weren’t sure, they could always just guess the nearest planet. It wouldn’t be the first time they’d made it up as they went along, and neither of them doubted it would be the last. “You would.” He teased, resting his head in his hand as he shifted, resting on his side to gaze at the Master with a small frown.
“Don’t mock me, Theta” he scowled, shifting to glare at him. Offering him a cheeky grin, The Doctor laughed as he fell back against the earth. “Well then don’t be so serious Koschei” he stated back with the raise of an eyebrow. Rolling his eyes at the use of the name, the Master slowly allowed himself to stretch back down in the grass, his brown gaze flicking back up towards the sky contently. The pair remained silent for a long moment. Neither of them needed words to communicate, not if they didn’t want to anyway. Instead they remained stretched out, occasionally shifting to link fingers behind their head or when their limbs begin to grow numb.
“What about that one?” The Master questioned after what seemed like hours, pointing towards one of the brighter stars. Glancing at the Doctor curiously, he grinned faintly at the look the other man gave him. “Aw, someone has bad memories.” The tone was teasing as the Doctor made a face before shifting to sit up, pushing him lightly. “Not bad, just….unpleasant.” He mused slowly, furrowing his eyebrows as if not amused at the idea. “Oh, everything’s unpleasant for you, Theta.” He grumbled, rolling his eyes at the man. “Oi! Not everything!” He challenged. “Just…certain ones.” He added thoughtfully.
Frowning, the Master sat up slowly, eyeing him for a moment before leaning in to kiss the Doctors forehead, patting his knee and clambering to his feet. “You’ll get over it, someday.” He assured him. Getting to his feet as well, the Doctor grinned before nudging him playfully. It really was nice, not being threatened or attacked by the other Time Lord for a while.
“Why haven’t we ever done this before, Theta?” the Master questioned finally, looking at him curiously. Scratching the back of his neck, The Doctors smile faded slightly. “I haven’t the slightest.” He admitted finally, looking away. Tilting his head, Koschei leaned against him lightly before nodding toward one of the stars. “What about that one? I hear it has a sky of gold.”
“A sky of gold, really?” Bright eyed the Doctor grinned before turning to head back to the TARDIS. “Oh, and Theta?” the other mans voice gave him pause as he glanced behind his shoulder curiously. Holding up the key for the other mans TARDIS, The master grinned knowing full well his thievery wouldn’t go over well. “Good luck stopping me.”
