Gabriel had always been good, but even for him this was a victory for the ages. Oh sure, he'd made the video just in case his older brother had actually got the drop on him, and he had to admit it was a close one towards the end. It was also true that, sure, Lucifer had taught him a few things before his family had started their petty fighting but the others often seemed to forget. He'd been on earth over a few thousand centuries, and learned a few new tricks. Making his brother feel sorrow and think he was dead? That was just one of the few tricks he'd picked up along the way.
He had to admit though; he was surprised it worked at all.
So he'd kept an eye on the boys. A close, invisible, weathered eye. It had paid off in the end when that little Prophet man had divulged the big showdown arena. He was there in a blink of an eye, watching the stupid hunter try to stare down big brothers. It wouldn't work, he knew that. His family had never thought highly of humans in the first place. Oh sure, Mike tried to, and Ralphy would do anything it took if it brought daddy dearest to come home, but the middle angel wouldn't dare set foot down here if he wasn't ordered to.
Poofing in a bag of popcorn, the youngest Arch angel casually leaned against the hood of the Impala, eagerly watching the three men try to show whose was bigger.
"Hey, Assbutt!"
The familiar voice of his brother drew everyone’s attention and the flying fiery bottle was being thrown before anyone could stop it, breaking against Michael’s vessel and catching him on fire with holy fire. He knew it had to hurt, and whatever the littlest angel plan had been, it worked. For a minute, anyway, causing both Arch Angel and Vessel to teleport away in pain. Unfortunately it also pissed off Lucifer.
"Castiel. Did you just Molotov my brother? With Holy Fire?" His voice was calm but the rage in his eyes was apparent as he raised his hand. "Nobody dicks with Michael...but me! “He growled.
"And Me."
His own voice was surprising to him as he stood up, wiping his hands on his shirt. The Shocked look on everyone’s faces pleased him, for a second at least, before he turned his attention back to Lucifer. “Gabriel?"
"Looks like someone doesn't have your back anymore, big bro."He mocked, moving closer as he raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms casually as the older being moved closer. "You’re alive? “The joy on his brother’s face was obvious, even if he was a cold blooded killer Gabe was still his brother after all.
Snorting, the youngest angel shook his head. "You’re not the only one I learned my tricks from. “He stated slowly. Rolling his shoulders, he pushed off the hood of the Impala he'd been leaning against and circled the other being as Lucifer circled him. "And yet, you still protect these...weak, flawed, abortions?" Lucifer questioned, pouting slightly as though being upset would sway Gabriel to his side as it used to.
"Lucifer, brother, I love you, but sometimes? You are deeply stupid." It was a low jab, but then, he stood no chance at a physical battle if the older angel chose to start one. Michael and Lucifer may have been the oldest, the bravest, and the strongest, but Gabriel had always been good at getting under their skin. Always the quickest one to make fun of their turmoil, to point out their flaws and chinks in their so called brotherly bond.
"You dare insult me? On today of all days? “Lucifer snarled, narrowing his gaze at his younger brother. “OH puh-lease Lucifer, don't give me the self-righteous act again. We've been through this. “He snapped, his tone bordering on annoyed as both beings came to a stop. “Gabe-"
Whatever Lucifer had been about to say was sidelined by the familiar sound of wings, Michael reappearing in the field, gaze leveled at their youngest brother darkly. "Castiel."He started sternly.
"Oh leave the baby bird alone, Mike." Startled, Michael whirled and stared at him in confusing. "You are sticking up for him? Why? He must be taught a lesson." like usual, his tone was authoritive, his posture rigid as light eyes studied the angelic being with a confused gaze. "Your damn right I'm sticking up for him." He snarled, moving closer to poke his brother in the chest roughly. "Someone has to vote for the underdog. Cause you two? You'll wind up tearing the world apart with your stupid little tempertauntrums. Don't give me that look, Mike; you know damn well that’s exactly what this is. You may claim to be in dad’s camp, but me? I'm on team Human, and you know full well I can give the both of you a run for your money."
There was nothing but silence in the field as the three angels stared each other down for what seemed like eternity. Finally Michael shifted, glancing at Lucifer before he nodded to Gabriel’s words. It was true, what the pair had in brute strength and stamina, Gabriel made up for in harsh words and the mastery of their angelic Grace.
"Except you’re not part of the story, Gabriel." Lucifer stated darkly, glowering at his older brother as if upset that the eldest creature would allow Gabriel to ruin their perfectly planned fight. "You never were."
Raising his hand to snap his fingers, smug smile creeping onto his face, Gabriel raised an eyebrow. There was a fleeting look of regret in Michaels eyes, though he made no move to stop his younger sibling if he so choose to murder their beloved brother. "I am sorry Gabriel. “He informed him sadly.
"Yeah? Be sorry over this." Without warning, Lucifer would suddenly find a fist in his face, causing him to stumble in surprise. "You hit me!" He roared angrily. "And I'll do it again. That was for threatening me."Gabe retaliated, shooting a quick glance at the group, who were merely standing there, jaws open. The fact that Michael looked amused Gabe decided to take as a good sign. "See, I'm a good son to Lucifer. I just know you better. 'Oh boo hoo, Daddy didn't love me enough.' You really think anyone’s buying that baby act Luci?" If anyone deserved to claim such a story, it would have been Raphael. Everyone knew the middle angel often got ignored and pushed aside, picked on, among other things from all their brothers and sisters. Even those in the lower ranks.
"Lucifer. “Michaels tone was solid, a stern warning as he vibrated with anger, glaring at both of them. Crossing his arms, Gabe absently rubbed his knuckles. "Aw, is baby gonna cry?" He teased. "Gabriel that is enough. We are not children anymore." Michael lectured, before turning his attention back to his brother. Slinging an arm over Lucifer’s shoulder, the oldest brother making soothing sounds as he tried to calm him down.
"I will end you, brother." Lucifer threatened, glowering. He would have lunged, if Michael hadn't been holding back. "Bring it on Lucifer."
Standing his ground, Gabriel crooked his finger in a 'bring it' gesture. Shrugging Michaels arm off him, Lucifer strolled closer to Gabriel, glowering. "Mark my words Gabriel. I and Michael will fight, and you won't stop it. I will kill you before you have the chance to interfere again."
With the flutter of wings, Lucifer teleported away, leaving him face to face with Michael who merely gave him an apologetic look. "Michael." He stated slowly. Shaking his head, he gave Gabriel a disappointed look before teleporting away as well.
As soon as they were both gone, Gabriel let out the breathe he didn't know he'd been holding, shoulders slumping in relief. "What the hell? You saved us? Why?" Dean spoke up finally, taking a tentive step closer to the arch angel. "Watch that tone big boy, I thought I detected a hint of gratitude there. Besides, if I don't stick up for you chuckleheads who will? “Especially since he knew his brothers well. They wouldn't let this big showdown go, not by any means necessary
Patting Dean on the back; he left in a flutter of wings. Let the trio put their heads together and come up with another stupid plan, if they wanted to. Gabriel in the meantime, was determined to stay alive long enough to smack Michael and Lucifer’s skulls together. After all, if he didn't who would?
