It almost annoyed Lucifer the way that he didn't know what to say when Ruby was around. That wasn't like him, he always knew what to say but all he did was shut the door behind her and slid the chain lock into place. If by some timing freak of nature Sane wanted to drop by he wouldn't be able to get in this time, he wasn't taking the risk.
It took him a moment to realize that Ruby was talking to him, he was a lot more focused on the fact that he'd spent two days hoping she'd knock on his door and now that she had he was fucking up royally. He returned her compliment to her quickly and even managed not to stumble over his words "You dress down beautifully." he said with a smile. Lucifer hadn't forgotten at all about the shirt that she had borrowed nor the dress that she had left here it was the closest thing to a guarantee that he'd see her again that he had, "Thank you" he said and took the folded shirt from him. Bloody hell she folded with precision. "I have your dress, it's in my closet. Don't worry I took good-" he stopped himself before he got to the end of that potentially creepy sentence, "I hung it up." he amended.
The next logical thing for him to do would be to go down the hall and pull the dress out of his closet but the minute that hanger exchanged hands it meant that she no longer had any legitimate reason to be there and he desperately wanted for her to have a legitimate reason to be standing in his house in a sundress. "I'd offer you something to drink but wine is the only thing I have that is remotely appropriate right now besides water." It was true, Lucy did have a bottle of wine it had been a gift from Sweet Thing a year or so a ago for something that Lucy couldn't remember. Now was as good of a time as any.
