Ben inclined his head. "You're right," he conceded. "Very few women. And a lot of those women consult me. How else would I be able to afford to run this place? The Military pays well, but not well enough to support a surgery in Kensington."
He managed to keep a blank face when Madison mentioned the perfume although he mentally swore. It was, after all, a highly memorable scent and it suited Delora perfectly.
Madison went one step too far, however. "No," Ben said quietly. "No, you've never been me. I've been a total arsehole and a complete coward in a lot of respects. But I've never treated any woman the way you treated her. You might have thought you knew her once. You don't anymore."
He ignored the outstretched hand and the earring and glared at Madison. "I told you. I don't know where she is at the moment. I don't keep her on a fucking lead. Now if that's all you want I suggest you leave now. I'll even apologise for you having had a wasted journey, if it'll help."
