Gert had long ago learned not to squint when people weren't in focus. It never helped. All it did was give her a headache and make her eyes hurt. The trick was to look slightly off to the side, which sort of cleared things up a bit. She couldn't see the newcomer enough to really recognize her. All she could tell was that there was silver, pale hair and a sort of glow around the woman.
She didn't even bother trying to stifle the groan. "At least I did a good enough job to be recognized. I'll spare you the expected vocabulary. Mixing help would be appreciated. I cannot read any of these damn bottles. Anything strong that doesn't taste too much like cough syrup works."
Then she tilted her head at the woman. "You're Alison, right?" Of course she could be completely wrong. It was hard to tell without her glasses, but the luminescence was a bit of a tip off.
