Since Jay wasn't aware of any specific kind of alter-ego he might have, he just went with the obvious: He'd strapped his wings down, carved and painted a pair of horns and managed a tail from a scrap of faded red fabric he'd found in the barn. A devil might be cliche but it worked for the party. He almost hadn't shown up, in point of fact. There was so much still to be done before the major planting started and he wasn't going to have his first year managing that aspect of the farm be a failure, no sir.
But he hadn't seen much of anyone, including his sibs, outside of work and he figured he'd better at least put in an appearance before Sam or Paige hunted him down and found out how little he'd actually been sleeping. Or eating. Or doing much of anything but working.
For a second Jay wondered if Jeb had tattled on him yet and then dismissed the idea. If Jeb had said anything, his sibs would have swooped down and hauled him home already. Good thing too. If they knew how he'd been shorting himself he'd never get to leave the party. And hour, he could afford an hour then back to work.
