Unbreakable could mean so very things. Once upon a time, Gert had thought that she was unbreakable, too, and then learned that wasn't the case. She didn't want that same sort of thing to happen to Molly. They were all grown-up now, although in some ways more than others, but it didn't mean they could not be hurt or busted open like porcelain figures.
"You would be surprised at what can break when you're not expecting it," she said simply. "I'll keep an eye out for surprises." Nothing was meant to be patronizing. Gert had always hated when older people tried to tell her what was best for her, but it was different than Molly. She was trying to spare her truth, and it still felt like lies. She still ended up feeling like a fake and a hypocrite.
She could see on Molly's face about the news on the parents front. If there was a giant secret base, Gert could only hope that Chase's parents hadn't made it in. From the other side of things, she could see that, really, the Hayes and her own parents hadn't been so bad. Although all of their deceits and workings deserved to be drowned beneath the waves for all time in an attempt to stifle it from making more of an impact on the world.
"No thanks required. I stole some of your childhood hats." Gert moved a little further into the room, taking small, timed steps. "Do you want some help?"
