Gert pressed her lips together and nodded. "That's fair. I didn't mean it that way. You're allowed to feel however you want to about whomever you want it." This was Molly. She would level. "I only wish that you would be mad at just me because that way I can protect him. Like I said, it's not a fair request to make so I'll stop."
That question made her take a deep breath and rub at her eyes behind her glasses with both hands. Her voice was quieter than normal when she breathed out and crossed her arms over her chest again. "Yes. We went to my parents' house, Chase's," she kept her eyes on the ground, "yours. Chase wanted," one hand fluttered next to her head, "parts and supplies. I took books."
She swallowed. "We didn't find them. Any of them. It was enough to make us worry about what we would find when we came home, but we did." Then her eyes moved up to find Molly's face even if the younger girl wasn't looking at her. "We did come home."
