“Probably would have spooked me anyway,” Molly shrugged. There were very few graceful and non-terrifying ways to make your presence known to someone listening to music. At least Gert hadn’t been within hitting distance, because an instinctive punch to the face would have not been a fun way to say hello. She pulled the other earbud free and turned the iPod off, winding the cord around the body of the device. Molly wasn’t really sure what Gert wanted to talk about, but she had a feeling that even if it was something really arbitrary, it was probably best to give Gert her full attention.
“Marina and the Diamonds,” she replied, glancing at the iPod with a nod. “She’s pretty good.” Molly didn’t really know where else to go with the small talk, and she nodded again. She’d said some pretty crappy things to Chase and she knew that she’d been out of line, even if she was just being honest. But Chase and Gert hadn’t been saints either, and she wasn’t sure if the point of the visit was to apologize or to try to guilt her or what... and though before, she probably would have been able to figure out which it was simply by virtue of the fact that it was Gert who’d come to visit her... there was always the very distinct possibility that Gert wasn’t the way Gert had been before. So she waited, setting the iPod down on the counter and tugging her hat free so she could re-tie her ponytail.
