Yeah, they probably should have come sooner. It wasn't the best reason and at the time Chase was pretty sure neither of them, especially Gert would have made it if the alternative had happened and they'd found it in ruins and their friends zombies or dead. Molly deserved the truth. It was very important to both of them, no matter if the truth made them sound selfish or cowardly to her.
Chase had asked because Gert wouldn't until Old Lace was nearly kicking down the side of her skull to get out. He'd been taking care of her for two years now, he wasn't about to stop just because they were someplace safe. Well, probably safer than anywhere else they'd been, by the walls and the security stuff he could see.
He laughed at Molly's reply, reaching up to scratch at the scruff on his chin. "Not exactly the Hilton out there, Molls," he reminded her. "Razor blades aren't easy to come by and are better used for stripping wire and stuff. Besides, I kind of like it. Makes me look older." Of course, his newfound resolve to not shave was only because Molly had dissed the beard.
Chase was distracted by the mention of the word shower. As in hot running water shower. Which he couldn't remember the last time he had an actual hot shower.
That train of thought was immediately derailed when Molly grabbed Gert's hand. She was actually wearing her rings for once. "Yes, seriously," he said, holding up his hand and grinning a little sheepishly. "I asked her when we made it to LA finally. I didn't think putting it off any longer was a good idea. She said yes." He shrugged. "So we did it."
