Rating: PG-13 for swearmouthing and sexuality

Snow fell softly as two slim figures danced down Greymalkin Lane. The girl out front had pushed the fur trimmed hood down on her coat to accommodate a fur-lined trapper hat that sat on her head like a crown. Her bouncing blond braid caught the sunlight so that it seemed golden. Despite the slight grubbiness of her face--it had been almost forty-eight hours since she'd bathed, such as it was--her blue eyes stood out sharply, an intense shock of color in a desaturated environment.

They'd taken it as a good sign when they'd reached plowed-looking roads, clear enough that Ali didn't need headphones and her powers for them to navigate. It had been three days since their truck had broken down. They'd spent the nights in abandoned homes. There'd been a scary moment when they'd found a walker locked in a car, but they dispatched it easily and fallen asleep in a nearby house, discussing whether it was safer to keep going or to try to salvage some parts and turn back for their truck.

But today they'd found cleared roads and just fifteen minutes ago, turned onto a road whose street sign was still visible--GREYMALKIN LANE--and there had been much rejoicing. They'd been singing all day, just to keep momentum up, but now they busted into some favorites. And there was dancing, too. In fact, Ali was absorbed in dancing to an enthusiastic cover of Bikini Kill when she looked up and realized they were there.

"Fuck!" Ali stopped dead and swung around to Tabby, "This is it."

There was a big hulking gate set in a big hulking wall, which seemed promising, and the pavement was clear despite the snow everywhere else. There were people here, alright. With a dubious look at Tabby, she approached the gate, whistling the first few bars of Rebel Girl under her breath.

Tabby was far too irritated by the whole incident that led them in this direction, or at least the discriminating bastards that sent them off without any real just cause after knowing them for so long. She was tempted to toss a few bombs in their direction, but having Ali close to her always helped. And being around her, it was hard not to exhibit equal pep.

Singing, smiling, dancing and even laughing in the cold just seemed like the thing to do when it came to these two. Of course, that didn't stop Tabby from picking up a wad of snow as Ali stopped in her dead in her tracks. A little twinkle in her eye might have been noticeable if given enough time, but Tabby hurled it at Ali just as she turned towards her.

It had done her heart good to see the place still standing, but at the same time, Tabby just hoped it was the 'right' kind of people staying here and that worse hadn't come to worse. Giggling at the look on Ali's face, she smiled. "We can't just go rushing on in, you know? Might not be the same people we knew." They had to be prepared here. Good or bad.

The snow in her face startled the hell out of Ali and she squinched her face up and shook the snow away.

"You JERK!" Ali said, trying to seem furious and not like she was about to laugh. Still, Tabby's comment reminded her that this was hardly a promised shot. The laughter dying in her eyes, she grabbed an earbud from her pocket, stuck it in her ear, and pressed play. Music burst into her mind and with it, the power to throw up a shield around them.

That was when she noticed the cameras, "Uh, they're filming us."

She cast a grin over her shoulder at Tabby, "I hope they know we're very litigious."

"Am I?" Tabby laughed. "And you couldn't tell me this sooner? I had no idea." She went onto joke, only to add mockingly, "You have a little something white right there."

Looking up at the cameras, Tabby just shrugged and waved up at the cameras. "Like you're not used to someone checking out our sweet asses."

"Us? Hardly. You? Maybe. I'm more like the hot bodyguard keeping all those dirty predators at bay from your sweet musical innocence over here." She continued to joke, though she was very much keeping her eyes peeled for any actual sign of life right now. Or at least movement anyway. No telling what there was stalking around out here.

This had to be the most stragglers they'd had filter in for a long time. First Wisdom and the Cruz children, then Gambit, and now two young women. Lorna had given Jimmy the heads' up that they had visitors. Visitors who were in fact two former students of Xavier's. He cringed at her impatient tone, not reminding her that he couldn't let them in if she didn't let him off the comm.

"I'm buzzing you in," Jimmy told them through the intercom. Since they were former students of the school and Lorna recognized them and gave the all clear, there was much less need for precautions. Thank Usen. Jimmy still felt bad for scaring the Cruz girls the way he had, even if he couldn't help it.

The door buzzed and opened, allowing Jimmy to duck under it and step out. A glance around to make certain no one had followed the women and were set on using the opening to try to make an attack, he waved them inside. "Hurry, we don't like the leave the doors open long."

"Because everyone knows your sweet musical innocence was taken long ago," Ali returned, eyes flashing with mischief, "By that bass player from Lip Glossary."

"O-kay," Ali said when the intercom cracked to life, tentatively dropping the shield but not turning off the music playing in her ear. She thought she recognized the voice through the intercom--that was one of Ali's weird skills, remembering people's voices. Tabby always said it was a singer's problem and that her main issue was recognizing boys with their shirts on.

When the gates began to open, Ali instinctively reached for Tabby's hand. For a moment, she considered reaching for the guns strapped to her thigh, but then again if she remembered the voice then there was a good chance they were safe.

The man who stepped through the gate surprised her, "Jim!" She said it without smiling, but her relief was clear on her face. Once past the wall, she bounced nervously on the balls of her feet. She'd been hoping all along they'd be there, that her mom would be inside, but she'd also been resigned to finding ruins or worse, a hostile take-over.

"Kathleen Blaire," She said once Jimmy closed the gate, "Is she still here? Is she alive?"

"Hey! There was nothing wrong with that!" Tabby laughed. "There was obviously a reason they named their band that because damn that guy really knew what he was doing."

Buzzing in? Why did it feel like old times all of a sudden? Still looking around, not prepared to give out her trust just yet, Tabby heard Ali's voice before she turned and noticed Jim. Looking him over with a grin, she couldn't help but point out, "Damn boy. You really knew how to eat your Wheaties."

Following the bouncy Ali inside, she suddenly felt a little bad hearing Ali's question. She really hoped beyond all hope that all went well on that end.

"Hello," he greeted, offering them both a restrained smile. Jimmy didn't know either of them very well, but it was a much more at ease situation than with Wisdom and the Cruzes. He actually had to chuckle at Tabby's comment.

Enough joking, Ali's question was very important. "Yes," he told her. "She tutors the children here and cares for them and helps with meals. She never left." Considering his own paranoia about losing any more of his adopted family, Jimmy was well aware of everyone and their duties in the colony, which made answering her question much easier.

Ali looked so unbelievably earnestly relieved that her next remark didn't seem anything other than totally sincere, which it was, "Well FUCK ME, thank god."

Ali didn't believe in god, and hadn't since she was a child, but she still cited his presence in the usual way. If queried, she would claim to be referring to the only real God, the God of Rock and Roll.

She leaned into Tabby the way teenage girls do when they're standing close together and they need to express either relief or the specific emotion that comes from seeing the boy you like. A kind of boneless half-collapse a short second of dramatic effect and a gesture exchanged between them a million times before.

"You're one of her students, right? Jim or Jamie?" Ali spoke to the guy, now recalling that she'd recognized him.

Patting Ali on the back, she winked at her. "Sorry sweetie. Not tonight. We have to go say hi."

Wrapping an arm around Ali's shoulders, Tabby grinned at the guy before them, obviously looking him over. What? She could look. A lot. Yeah. "So, where do we go for this little meet and greet? And do all the guys here look like you because if so, I might want some of those Wheaties."

He was glad for Ali and Kathleen. Anyone who managed to keep any of their family through this he was incredibly glad for. He smiled at Ali's statement and Tabby's retort, not taking either personally. It was good to see people joking around.

"James Proudstar," he told Ali, extending one enormous hand to her first. He would already have to go through decontamination, so there was no reason to be rude. "Most people call me Jimmy or Jim. Nice to meet both of you."

Tabby's question sobered him a bit. "First you have to go through decontamination and be checked over for open cuts," he explained. "I can call Dr. McCoy up here once you're both cleaned up and changed. I need all your stuff, so it can be cleaned up as well. You'll get it back after it is."

"Hi, Jimmy," Ali said, aiming a slightly flirty smile way way up at Jimmy. As he spoke to Tabby, she looked past him--up towards the mansion, which filled her with a long dead nostalgia for home.

Worry knit Ali's eyebrows together, "Here? Here where?" All she wanted in the world was to see her mom. While part of her registered the sense in decontamination, wouldn't there word be good enough.

"We're clean, there's nothing wrong with us, neither of us have cuts or a fever," Ali said, on the verge of becoming upset.

"Jimbo," she grinned, seeing a whole different side to this then Ali was. He just said that they would have to be checked over. So obviously that had to mean all over right? Oh no. Tabby wasn't about to mind that at all. "You can have anything you want from me." She told him digging into her pockets to find anything she could to hand over.

Moving to take her coat off, she didn't really care about how cold she was now. She would strip right here if that meant something worth wild. Tabby was certainly not the shy type. Moving for her shirt, she smirked. "You can have a first go at taking a look if you want."

Pausing for a moment, she asked curiously, "You are coming to this decontamination too right, big guy?" Oh he had better. Hell, she would touch him or rub whatever they thought was contaminated on her onto him to do so.

Jimmy nodded to Ali. "It's procedure," he explained gently. "There's showers here, and I can call Hank while you're getting cleaned up. And your mother. I can call her now if you want." It wasn't as if they were prisoners or something. People could be visited at the gatehouse before they were cleared. "Do you want me to?"

Tabby threw him for a ringer. He assumed (no matter what all of his senses were telling him) she was joking. Jimmy was sticking with that story as long as he could hide behind the denial. He was perfectly capable of checking a female over for cuts without being anything but clinical. He'd done it a lot of times. "I can do that, but you should probably shower first."

Her next question (and the accompanying extra input) was even worse. "Yes, I have to clean up too," he replied, feeling like taking a step back although he didn't. "After you two are done and the doctor is here. I have to clean the room while you're showering."

Ali nodded at Jimmy, annoyance melting away. There was nothing wrong with them--well, nothing serious. They'd been on their own all winter, eating whatever they could scavenge, so it wasn't as though they were poster children for healthy living.

"Call her after, I don't want her to have to wait around." Ali couldn't imagine how shitty that would be for her mom, waiting outside to see Ali and wondering. Better to really surprise her, less stress involved.

Still, now that she was resigned to the shower now it actually sounded pretty great. Tabby's antics made her laugh and following her friend's lead, she aimed a flirtatious grin at Jimmy, "Lead the way to these showers." She dropped her pack with Tabby's and unzipped her coat, revealing a surprisingly pristine white sweater. It had only had the tags removed from it the day before, liberated as it was from a department store.

"I bet there's room for you in our shower," She teased, "We can squeeze."

Oh how well these two girls minds worked sometimes. Even being as different as they could be. Licking her lips she just kept her smile up and let go of her shirt.

"We do tend to take long showers, don't we Ali? It would probably be better if he did squeeze in. That and conserve some water. It only seems right." She went on to agree with her friend. "And it's always helpful to find out when someone's missed a spot. The more the merrier, especially when they are all too helpful." Yeah, if that didn't scream she wasn't joking, Tabby didn't know what did.

Okay, this was not happening. A dream. Yes, he was having some sort of dream where two beautiful women were propositioning him in the gatehouse during decontamination. Not that he'd ever had dreams like that before. Now he would.

Of course, all he do was look between them rather dumbstruck. None of the women ever came onto him. Raven kind of leered at him from time to time, but this wasn't subtle at all. And while it was extremely tempting (more they could imagine), there was somethings that needed to be done. Which he needed to be thinking about now and not the way they smelled. Because if he did that, then he'd forget everything else.

Clearing his throat and shaking his head, Jimmy nodded towards the left side. "The showers are in there," he managed. "I need to collect your gear and clothing and clean up in here before I shower." And call Hank. He'd almost forgotten that part.

Ali could imagine pretty good. Jimmy was the first non-flesh-eating man she'd seen in weeks. And boy, was he a lot of man. As they stepped inside, Ali shrugged off her coat and shoved her gloves in the pockets. She left her pack by the door, with Tabby's.

Outside the showers, Ali raised her eyebrows at him playfully, "Aren't you coming?" She asked with a certain innocence, as if she'd genuinely expected him to join them.

Her sweater and tank top were off in the wink of an eye, revealing much more of Ali's pale skin than had previously been on display.

"I won't let Tabby bite, I promise," This actually was totally sincere, although the glint in her eyes had not at all diminished.

Tabby was not at all happy about the bite comment and scoffed. "Since when are you no fun Ali?" Pulling her top off she tossed it aside and quickly kicked off her boots and went to slowly peel off her jeans. Hell yes, she was going for a show.

But that wasn't going to stop her. Not by a long shot. Pointing in a direction that Jimmy had told them the showers were, Tabby purposely walked right over to him and with her little 5'5" figure, brushed up against him as close as she could in her bra and panties. "Over there?" She asked all too innocently.

Yeah, this could just not be happening. Jimmy forced himself to actually breathe and try to think. The biting comment was not helping, especially since the only response to that he could think of was that it wouldn't break his skin, so that didn't matter.

He needed to stop acting like a teenage boy now. Especially since this was not the time or the place. Not that he wanted to offend either of them. If it had been anywhere else that there wasn't a security camera and probably Lorna watching and laughing her ass off at his dilemma, he might not even hesitate.

Okay, who was he kidding? He wouldn't hesitate for a second. Unfortunately, it was the wrong place and the wrong time. And very much against the rules. Damn rules.

"Yeah," he croaked, forcing himself not to move away. Because that was hardly unpleasant. "Over there. Your friend found it."

As Tabby approached Jimmy, Ali grinned and leaned against the doorway, watching Jimmy's response. You didn't have to be a genius to know that he was experiencing some major conflict.

"We'll think about you, big guy," Ali promised with a wink, "Tabbs, c'mon, we'll catch him after. I wanna get inside."

Two years ago, Ali would have kept it up for as long as it took. (Usually, not terribly long.) Now, she reasoned the guy was living here so he wasn't going to disappear into a crowd and never be seen again and more importantly, it would be so much more appealing to flirt when she didn't feel so grimy. The rush to get inside had died down for their little two-on-one attempt but now it rose in her again, reminding her she'd be seeing her mother soon.

Tabby did not like to be turned down one bit. Whatever he was obviously having issues with had to be something other then them, right? It just had to be.

But that didn't mean she was going to stop. Not completely. But Tabby was not about to pout. Hell no, that was not her. Walking on over towards Ali, a little more sway to her hips then should probably be there, she was nearly in the showers when she pulled off her bra, and being the good shot she was, underhandedly tossed it over at Jimmy. Smirking, she took a few steps more and did the same with her panties and simply tossed those in his general direction. There was his breadcrumbs if he changed his mind.

They were not the reason he was turning them down. It was completely against the rules to have that sort of risky close contact with someone in quarantine. If Jimmy were being completely honest, that was the only reason.

After was fine, if they were still interested. He didn't expect them to be, especially after they realized there were other men here. He could almost feel his teeth protesting on how tightly he had them clenched to restrain himself.

Especially after Tabby threw her undergarments at him. She had no idea the effect it had on him. He caught the bra out of reflex, which didn't help any. Then her panties, which was worse. He collected the rest of their clothing and gear and headed off to deposit it into the proper area.

Then he pulled off his own shirt and tossed it in, scrubbing up his hands. Cleaning up the area was pretty easy, they'd barely tracked in a little muddy snow. "It's clear," he called to the pair as he laid two packs of clothing the right sizes for them. "There's clothes for you."

Now he just hoped he could not scream when he turned on the cold water.

Well, if Tabby was going to strip out here--and it seemed like that might be procedure anyway, Ali would too.

Unclothed, but covering her breasts with one arm, she waved at Jimmy, "See you later!" And with that she followed Tabby into the shower.

They'd hardly turned the water on before Ali began a rousing version of 'I Touch Myself' complete with some passionate lathering and soap-microphone use.

Grinning at the current song choice, Tabby couldn't help but moan loudly and purposely as she felt the water hit her. Okay, she could, but damn if she wasn't about to enjoy this a bit.

And it didn't help that she quickly found the beat to the song and was literally tapping it against the wall and adding little moans and groans at certain high points of the song. What? There had to be some sort of extra dramatic effect, right?

They were officially offended and officially trying to kill him. Jimmy gave up on the idea of a cold shower, because all of the cold water in the world wouldn't help. Sticking his head under the water as long as he could hold his breath helped a little. But not much.

He didn't stay long, because the echo inside the showers just made it worse. He wrang out his hair as best he could and tossed on a pair of sweats. He left a note for Hank and then sat down heavily on the bench to wait for the doctor. He was not standing up again until he could leave.

Ali was toweling off in the main room when he returned. She had put on the sweatpants and shoes, but wore the sweatshirt open over a t-shirt that didn't do much to hide the fact that her reaction to "this bra doesn't fit" had been "well forget it then."

"Hi, Jimmy," She grinned at him cheerfully, "Love the hot showers." Ali said it with enthusiasm as she half-zipped the hoodie and pulled the hood up over her damp blond head.

"If we get our own room up in the big house," Ali began, casting Jimmy a look from beneath lowered lashes, "Would you come visit us tonight?"

She said it with such guilelessness. There was something about Ali that made it clear, even when she was teasing, that she was being completely honest. It was a compelling quality--it made it obvious that there was no artifice to her. Ali might have been a flirt from way back, but she wasn't a tease. When she looked at him like that, she meant it. When she asked the question, she meant that too.

Tabby was just running a hand through her wet hair, not really caring about the towel so much, just enjoying the feeling of being damp and not frozen or sweaty. But her reaction to the bra included fiddling with it from about every end, trying to get it to work instead. Hell, it gave her some nice cleavage. She was not about to not abuse that fact.

Looking over at Ali as she brough up Jimmy and then visits, Tabby smiled brightly. She wondered if his decison not to join had anything to do with being a virgin or something. Tabby still didn't see how there would be any possible rule against anything, though she wouldn't put it past this place and it's rules. But that didn't mean she didn't see where Ali's mind was headed. "Two beds are better then one." But after a moment, she decided to add, "Or we could always use a good tour of the place. Does your room have a good view Wheaties?"

Well, apparently he hadn't completely offended them. Jimmy was vastly relieved at that. Not too long ago, he would have had many more inhibitions about having a threesome with two women he'd only just actually met and only knew about from their infrequent visits to a staff member who treated him like a surrogate son.

That was before the world had been decimated by the zombie virus, his entire tribe had been killed and he'd spent two years in close confines with other people who had no idea how much of their lives they broadcasted nonstop. Added on top to the fact that no one had shown any particular interest in him. These two women were probably only interested in him because he was there, but that was more than he'd gotten for a long time.

And he hadn't had sex since before his mutation manifested six years ago. There were many, many reasons for this and most of the ones that had any chance of discouraging him were being overruled by the fact they were still propositioning him. Jimmy was insular and repressed. He wasn't dead. And he was still a young man in his early twenties.

He couldn't help but smile at Ali's more discrete invitation. He was glad he hadn't offended them by not joining them in the shower. It was simply too far, especially for him. Now in privacy? That was much more appealing.

Tabby was even more forward, her comments got a small laugh. He looked at her, trying to banish the smell of her undergarments from his mind and not succeeding well. "I live in a trailer by myself," he explained. "Whichever you both are more comfortable with." He made sure to make eye contact with Alison as well, since he wasn't by any means excluding her.

He wasn't going to tell them no. Not that he actually expected them to want him when they saw the other male inhabitants of the colony. But it was definitely a nice thought.

Ali beamed at Jimmy, "I think this would be the perfect way to break in a new room."

She glanced over at Tabby, bouncing her eyebrows playfully, "Right Tabbs? Can't spend our first night in a new place doing something boring like sleeping."

The idea of Jimmy sleeping over, enticing though it was, didn't seem quite real to Ali. First she'd see her mom--that would be the first thing that would indicate to her this wasn't a lengthy hallucination that included an accurate rendering of both a hot shower and a hot guy. Then, eating something that wasn't packaged two years ago. And finally, their truck. Gotta get that taken care of pronto.

"Hey, I have a question," She said, loosely braiding her hair with the hairband she'd found in the clothes pack taut around her fingers, "We had to abandon our truck with all our gear in it," Gear was a tactful way of expressing the fact that they'd filled the car not just with survival gear but totally random goofy items, including a chauffeur's cap the driver was obligated to wear and a pilot's hat for the navigator, "About two days ago. We left it at the corner of Elliot and Elm. Is there any chance you guys have the facility to like...rescue it?"

Oh so now he's verbally receptive? Though he was obviously not a big talker. Not that Tabby minded that part one bit. She could think of many things could be done instead of idle chatting. Eying her friend as a slow smirk crept into her features, "Who needs sleep?" Of course she left out that part about sleeping when they're dead seeing as the dead don't do much sleeping anymore. No need to bring that all up right now.

But Ali had a point about the truck. It was too bad Tabby's mind was on food at the moment. Well, regardless as it might seem considering that she was looking at Jimmy with an obvious hunger, as she asked, "When can we eat?" Yeah, they could both take that as they wanted to.

Okay, they needed to get off this topic if they wanted him to be able to concentrate on their actual questions. Because right now they were being far more distracting than they could know.

And he really needed to answer their actual question. Taking a deep breath and concentrating on untangling his own long wet hair for something to do, Jimmy answered their questions as best he could. "I'll tell Storm about it," he offered. "We can probably send one of the scout groups out for it. Did it break down or run out of gas?"

As for Tabby's question, Jimmy chuckled again. "Knowing Kathleen, the first thing she'll do is hug you," he pointed out. "The second will be try to feed you. So as soon as Hank or Josh are done with you, I can take you to her." Yeah, that meant walking around with these two. Which was going to be interesting with the thoughts they'd put in his head, especially around Kathleen and the kids she cared for.

This was just not his day.

"Broke down," Ali said, screwing up her face as she tried to remember the nature of the noise preceding the malfunction, "It made kind of an URK URK URK noise. I'm glad you guys can send someone out for it, it's a cool rig." She grinned. For a girl who'd never owned a car in her life, she'd taken to the truck big time.

"Awesome, I'm glad to hear she hasn't slacked off on our account." Hearing her mom's name was like a balm to Ali's weary spirit. She'd never allowed herself to think that her mom might not have survived, or at least not for longer than a second, so she was taking it just about as calmly as she seemed. It would be later, alone with Tabby, when the calm might slip but for now, she was okay.

"How is everyone?" Ali asked next. Knowing as she did that her mom was safe reminded her of all the other mansion residents, "The Professor? Storm? Scott and Jean?"

"And there were some weird ticking sounds too." She added to Ali's little description. Only Tabby walked right over to Jimmy and pretended to trip a little bit as she clicked her tongue to mimic the noise only to end up brushing up against the front of him before walking past him. She was all for getting the happy hello over with. Tabby didn't know how many would actually be glad to see her. Ali was one thing but Tabby was certainly another. The only one she was really interested in was Kathleen.

But when Ali brought up specific people, Tabby, for once didn't know what to say really. For once anyway. Waving at them to get in gear, she figured that their little decontamination was over and rolled her eyes. "Why don't we just go see?"

"They'll probably send Sam along," he suggested. "He's our mechanic."

He was sure Kathleen would be glad to see both of them. Everybody who knew them would. It was always a relief to see anybody come through the gates alive and well. Especially former students of the school itself.

Ali's question immediately killed the mood, although it wasn't a bad thing. Jimmy sobered immediately looking down and closing his eyes before replying. It still hurt, all the family they'd lost. "Jean and Xavier died two weeks after the virus was released," he explained grimly. "They were over in England trying to help people there." It wasn't going to get any better. "Scott died about two months ago. Ororo is in charge right now." He looked away. "I'm sorry."

Ali's eyes widened and she bit her lip as the list went on. So many people who had helped her, who had been kind and thoughtful and supportive, were gone. It wasn't like they were on more than a cards-at-Christmas-and-chats-during-visits level with them, they were still important to her. Like family, especially with Kathleen working alongside them.

"Oh," Ali said, still looking almost childlike and injured, before a wellspring of other names bubbled up in her, "Who else? Kurt--Bobby--Hank?"

She covered up her face with her hand, "You said Hank, Hank's fine."

Oh great. Tabby was a little irked that he had to answer that question. Of course there was going to be bad news with it, and it was only going to get worse from there right? Why couldn't they just have the happy family reunion and deal with the rest later?

Walking over to Ali quickly, Tabby put on a brave face and wrapped her arm around her friend. Just because they made it, it wasn't like everyone had. Even here. She just raised a brow over at Jimmy, trying to point out for him not to be the current bearer of bad news here. "We should go talk to Kathleen." She tried to reassure Ali.

Ali's reaction just brought all the loss sharply back to Jimmy. It had broken him completely, coming back from burying his entire tribe to finding out Jean and the professor had died. He didn't even know who knocked him out and how, but he was eternally grateful they did. Because he'd completely lost his mind to the grief. It'd taken a long time to come as far as he had after that.

He didn't ignore Tabby's advice more than not want to make Ali wait to find out. "Kurt is alive, Bobby is alive," he assured her. "So is Hank." Speaking of Hank, Jimmy rose. "I'll go find him so you two can get to see Kathleen faster. Be right back." It would be wrong to make them wait much longer to see Ali's mother with the bad news he'd just had to deliver.

Ali leaned slightly into Tabby, letting her presence remind her that this was no time for falling apart or getting emotional. They were safe, they had each other, that was all that mattered.

"Well, I scared him away," Ali said to Tabby as Jimmy disappeared out the door.

"You? Scare that guy away? Never. You couldn't scare a fly." Tabby teased her, trying to lighten the mood a bit. "Now me, on the other hand? Seeing me will probably do that to more then a few here. I'm sure he's heard horrible tales." Ones that were true but hardly the point.

"Besides, can you imagine the look at Kathleen's face when you go walking right up to her after all this time?" Now that will be a sight.
