He pondered for a moment as Mac struggled. He knew very well that Mac had the ability to make good on her threats, but he made no motion to move. On the one hand, keeping her trapped could only piss her off further. On the other, if he was lucky, the feisty little minx would wear herself out. Charlie kept his hold on her firm. "I think you need to chill out. I may be mud to you, but you're the pig rolling in it. And frankly, I don't know 'why the hell' you would want me, but you keep coming back for more. Let's not forget who started this little altercation."
His even tone contained more venom than Charlie would have liked. He did not see the point of verbal arguments, but his pride goaded him to bite back, to put Jax's little bitch in her place. And still he kept Belle out of the conversation, despite Mac's continuing allusions. Yes, she had been far sweeter than Mac's normal flavor, but Charlie also knew Belle was pretty much a one-time deal. As much of a selfish bastard as he was, he could not bring himself to tarnish a girl like Belle. But Mac, she seemed to thrive on the conflict and abuse. Lucky for her, Charlie could take it as well as dish it.
