Re: But of course!!!!
Gem simply couldn't interpret the look on Saint's face. She wasn't sure whether it was shock... or whether his anger had simply come on at such a high intensity that his face hadn't caught up with the rage yet... Then again, maybe he was just fine with it and a huge smile was about to burst over his face along with an offer to help in any way he could.... Yeah right, Gemini... Like he's really gonna do that.... At least there was bit of wishful thinking amidst the harsh realism.
Gem shifted uneasily in her seat as Wolf came into the room, still sleep-blinded and seemingly dead to the world. Her attention momentarily shifted away from Saint, the land-mine that she had just stomped her foot on, to Wolf, the mine that her foot was surely hovering directly over. He apparently hadn't recognized what she was talking about, the words not quite sinking through that sleep-induced haze. Once Saint spoke up, however, Gem was sure that her other foot would come down and her legs would be blown out from under her... So much for the pep talk she had given herself to steady herself...
Even with her nerves at an all time high, Gem noticed the lines in Wolf's brow, the shadows under his eyes and the tightness of his lips. She could guess the reason for his somber mood- besides lack of sleep, that was. He had been wandering around with his jaw clenched since that letter had come from the leader of the Jackals- those bastards that had caused all this trouble. Seeing a chance to bring his straying mind back to the here and now and possibly let Saint's anger diffuse for a moment, Gemini covered Wolf's free hand with hers and offered him a tentative smile.
"Wolf? Breath... suffocating yourself with worry isn't going to change the outcome of that meeting. The whole outcome doesn't rely on you alone. The others play equally important parts. All you can do is keep your eyes, your ears, and your mind open and hope that things will turn out to the benefit of everyone." With a crease in her own brow she continued, "Besides, it can't be good for Libby to watch you be torn apart by the unceasing train of thoughts that keeps racing through that head of yours..."
With her gaze shifting between the two most important men in her life, she waited for one bomb or the other to go off.
