"I hope you stay too," she said frankly. "And I would definitely say we're friends." Gemini sounded like she could use a friend here, and Shadow was happy to be that person. With that open personality she was sure she wouldn't be the only one though. If things went well, Gemini shouldn't have any trouble fitting in. She smiled.
"Callum? That's your dog then? Yeah, I'm sure Wolf appreciated that. Don't sell yourself short though. You wouldn't be the first filthy, exhausted drifter we've taken in. In fact our tribe is going to start getting a reputation for taking in strays soon. At least you weren't bleeding all over the place. And it sounds like you have a pretty valuable skill to share." It didn't sound at all like bragging to Shadow. Having someone with a skill who was confident about using it could only be a good thing. "I don't think we have anyone who can do that sort of thing now. People on the farm see to their own repairs when they can, but as far as I know there isn't anyone to make new stuff."
She had wondered just how much Gemini knew about the tribe and about Sundance. Apparently not a whole lot. Since she'd already earned her trust, Shadow didn't have any problem sharing whatever information she could. "There are four tribes in the area. There's the Wolves, that's us. I'd say about a third of us live in the city and the rest are out on the farm. There's also the Twin Feathers, that's who I'm going to visit. They live out in the forest a ways. They're good people, try to be peaceful and self-sustaining. We have pretty close ties with them. Besides that there are the River Runners who live on boats on the river. They do a lot of trading and such. We aren't quite as close with them, but we've never had any real problems with them either. Then there are the Mountain Lions. This used to be their territory here and they still control most of the city. They also control the mine and the power plant. We give them food and they provide us with power, but it's a pretty... shaky truce, at best. You should avoid them, if you can." Shadow shrugged. It wasn't a very strong warning, and some people might not have given any warning at all, but she felt the need to say something. Of their tribe she probably had more grudge against the Mountain Lions than most, if only becuase of all the injuries she had tended over the past few years that they had inflicted on her tribe. It wasn't the sort of thing she could forget. "Besides that quite a few drifters come through here in the spring and summer, so there are always some new faces."
