Jace would have done absolutely anything to protect Bishop, without a second thought. Oddly enough he'd known that long before he'd known that he loved her, although the two were certainly connected. It was more than that though. They were partners, they were a team. That meant relying on each other and protecting each other, that was the only way they were going to survive. She trusted him, and he wanted to be worthy of that trust. He wanted, somehow, to be worthy of her.
He reluctantly released his hold on her when she untangled herself from their embrace. "Mhm, we did do way better than the traditional kiss at midnight." Jace grinned as he casually trailed his fingers ever so slowly up the slope of her arm and along the curve of her shoulder. "But it's a little early to be calling it the best. We can't be more than a few minutes into the year. So... what should we do with the rest of New Year's Day?" It was a simple question, but with an unmistakable undertone of mischief.
