"Well, I can't really blame them for that." Jace smiled and stretched out on the bed next to her. "Although I think I like our private party better. At least less there aren't any curious tribals trying to make friends with us. Either our reputations aren't what we thought, or they've decided that if the dangerous drifters were going to snap and kill them all we'd have done it by now, so now it's safe."
Some people got morose about Christmas, plagued by memories of happy, or unhappy, holidays past, or they just felt that it was wrong to be celebrating when everything was so messed up. Jace had no problem with Christmas. In fact, to his own surprise, he'd sort of enjoyed the Wolves' Christmas party. If nothing else, no other experience could possibly have made him that tense, bored, amused, annoyed, and excited at the same time. And although he'd gotten used to being alone, or being alone with Bishop, Jace actually liked people. Or at least, he liked being around them and he liked messing with them. He'd been more than willing to slip away early tonight though. Something about the new year had always annoyed him.
"I don't have a problem with the party so much as the occasion anyway. New year? Fresh start? Clean slate?" He shook his head. "And why, because of some calendar that no one uses anymore? It's all nonsense. Tabula Rasa can kiss my ass."
