Wolf wet his lips with a sigh, he supposed that he should at least make some kind of effort to be friendly towards them. After all they had nothing to do with Nova and their presence, while also dangerous, could be used as political leverage if it came down to it. He nodded to the girl and then looked to the boy, “Yes, I’m Wolf. What are your names?” It probably seemed ridiculous to them that he didn’t know their names and really it was. It was completely unlike him to be so lax in his leadership. He knew he had to snap out of it because such carelessness was not going to help Nova, himself or the tribe.
They looked pretty worse for wear but he’d seen people a lot worse since the virus happened. At least they looked like they had some sort of meat on their bones. In the rides he took along the far edges of their county he’d seen drifters that could have easily passed for Halloween decorations. Still, he was sure they could use some food. He wasn’t sure if anyone had done anything for them other than show them to Shadow and, much to his chagrin, thrown them into Nova’s empty room.
“Why don’t you guys come into the kitchen and I’ll get you something to eat.” He turned from them then and disappeared back into the kitchen. One thing he was sure of is that they were weaponless. Surely they were checked before they were allowed anywhere near the house and their were only two places that Wolf kept weapons in the house: on his person and hidden in a secret compartment installed in the frame of the front door. Of course there were knives in the kitchen but Wolf was not afraid of knives.
He laid his book down on the table, open so that it would hold his place. He took another bite of his apple before sitting it down on the table as well and going to the fridge. “I have some eggs if you’d like some.” The refrigerator was not the coldest thing in the world but it was better than nothing. He probably should have been asking them all sorts of interrogatory questions but frankly, he didn’t quite feel like it. Sure, he wanted to know their whole story from their own lips but he was in no hurry and he was sure they weren’t about to venture out into the city.
