Jace had dressed and cleaned himself up somewhat, if only to remind himself that he wasn't on the road anymore, but in what passed for civilization. That took an entirely different mindset. The problem was that he couldn't afford to turn off that road way of thinking either. Right now they were neither here nor there, with a tribe but not a part of it, hidden but not necessarily safe, allowed but not necessarily welcome. They were at a crossroads, and would have to tread carefully. He hated being careful.
He was considering going back to bed and putting off facing the day just a little bit longer when Bishop came stumbling in. He automatically took her arms to steady her as they stood together in the doorway. He gave her an amused half-smile. She looked every bit as disoriented as he'd felt when he first woke up. "Morning. Nothing like waking up in a strange new place to start the day, huh?"
