"Thanks again, I owe you one." Kenji had never put much consideration into the concept of karma, as it had never seemed to prove true in his own life. During the time that he'd lived with his mother they'd mostly practiced Shinto, but once he'd joined the Naotaka family he'd been exposed to more Buddhist teaching. He'd always preferred Shinto, but his urban lifestyle hadn't been very conducive to it and since he'd lived in America he had not practiced either religion. Not that being a good person wasn't important without such theological backing. That simple concept, to Kenji, was more important than any doctrine.
Kenji was rather fascinated by just how big the cabin really was inside. Not that it was huge, but it seemed cozy and the natural light was a nice touch. He looked around at the simple quarters and had Christian been looking it would have been obvious how envious he was of the bed. He hadn't slept in a real bed in months, not since having left New Haven and even then his quarters there hadn't been much to speak of.
He shrugged off his pack as Christian handed him the sandwich. Shortly after Christian sat down, Kenji moved to sit beside Christian but not before throwing him a look that asked permission. Sitting on someone's bed without being invited wasn't something that the polite boy would ever do. When he got an inviting glance from Christian he took the liberty of sitting down. He was silent for a moment as he savored the sandwich.
It was simple food, but it was like a delicacy to Kenji. He never had much to trade and this was the first meal he'd had in awhile that even began to resemble something hardy and relatively normal. In Japan they made things resembling American sandwiches but their bread had never quite compared to the stuff they'd buy in the American grocery stores. Even now, this simple bread rivaled the stuff used in the Basashi- or horse meat- sandwiches he'd find in Osaka.
"This is nice. I now see why you'd consider staying in Sundance." He said, gesturing to the boat in general. "I don't remember you saying so, but was there a particular reason why you came to Sundance?"
