She heard other children and teenagers as they ran past her door. Some were crying, others were holding babies that were wailing and shrieking from all of the noise and confusion. Some of the kids came in and took things that they thought would help, but none of them looked at her. Not even the ones passing by who just glanced in the door looked at her. Not that she blamed them. Kelsey looked a real fright. She was pale as anything and the bruises on her skin were only that much more prominent. She was thin and really did look to be wasting away. They were probably scared of her and she wouldn't blame them if they were. Still...she couldn't help but want one of them to stay. Any of them. Being alone just made it all the worse. It made her feel much more hopeless.
By then the IVs were empty and there was no more medicine entering her body. Gritting her teeth, she pulled away the tape that secured the needles and then pulled the needles from her skin one by one. Little trickles of blood ran down her skin, but she could hardly care. She tossed the needles and tubes away, listening to them clatter to the floor. She made herself sit up all the way before just resigning herself to not moving and wallowing in the pain and horrible sickness she was feeling. No one was coming for her. No one was coming to save her. She was going to die in that hospitable bed and no one was going to care. And that was it. Her eyes were closed, so she wasn't paying particular attention. She hadn't heard anyone come in the room. But that voice was all too familiar to ignore.
Immediately, she opened her eyes and looked over. "Bobby..." It was hard to believe. He was really there? And he was taking her away from that awful place. "You're here...I can't believe you're here." He looked to be throwing a bunch of medicines in the bag left from her initial trip to the hospital. Not all of them were medicines for her condition, but what did that matter, honestly? "You're...you're taking me away from here?" she asked. It was just hard to believe that anyone had come for her at all. "I'm sorry I can't help you...but just moving hurts..."
