Welcome to Devil's Head. We are a supernatural based Original Character role-play game. The game takes place on the fictional island of Devil's Head. The island is located in Winya Bay in South Carolina. The island was one of the first settlements in colonial South Carolina, first settled in 1607. However the island saw it’s population boom when settlers fleeing the Salem witch trials in Massachusetts settled on the island. The few existing inhabitants welcomed the newcomers to the island and the two groups got along well for a long while. Little did the original inhabitants know, the refugees were in fact real witches who had been drawn to the island by supernatural energies.
It didn't take long for Devil's head to become a booming community. More people were drawn to the island. Not just witches, but vampires and werewolves as well. At first, everything seemed alright. The humans noticed strange happenings on the island that they couldn't explain but they likened it to life in a big city and didn't think twice. Besides, all the new residence were bringing commerce and prosperity to the island.
By 1718 Devil's head had the largest library in all of the colonies. It was mostly used as a safe place to house books on the supernatural and spell books and only allow them into appropriate hands, but they kept a world class assortment of "normal" books as well, to keep suspicions at bay.
By the time of the American Revolution, some of the old families on the island began to suspect their neighbors. As more and more people showed up to the island strange happenings began to happen more and more. Livestock disappearing without a trace, strange ritual circles found in the woods, building appearing suddenly overnight and then gone again the next day. Never the less, the very people who they suspected were supporting the budding nation and enlisting for the war, so they let their suspicions rest again.
By the early 1900's the once small community had a population of 250,000. The supernatural community actually outnumbered the humans by a rate of 4 to 1 and even had members of the supernatural community as high ranking members of the town. This lured them into a false sense of security and they began to be less careful of keeping their secrets. In 1940 Devil's Head had it's first vampire as the Mayor of the island. The Mayor tried his best to keep the lid on the can that was just about to burst. The humans began asking questions and demanding answers for the strange happenings. He did his best to keep things together but it didn't take long before the supernatural community grew tired of hiding and revealed themselves.
Naturally, the humans were horrified. To learn that Witches, Werewolves and Vampires not only actually existed but were living among them, caused them to react violently. The humans began attacking anyone they even suspected of not being one of them and for a week, the island was a battlefield. While some on both sides chose not to fight, it did not end well for the humans. Casualties were heavy on the human's side. The island that prior to the conflict hosted a population of 150,000 humans, was now down to a human population of 95,000 by the time the white flag was waved.
Being on an island, isolated from the mainland as well as some magical assistance, the Mayor was able to keep the news of the conflict from reaching the mainland. With the help of community witches he had a charm cast over the island, making it impossible to chart on a map. Any tools for locating a place(compass and later GPS, ect) would go haywire when the device came within 600 miles of the island. Making the island only findable by those who know where to look. The Mayor also turned Fort Devil into a school of sorts for the supernatural community. To humans, the fort just appears to be a broken down fort but to members of the supernatural community the fort is modern and updated. The fort contains buildings for classes, large court yards, and a safe house. While youngsters would still attend the regular schools on the island for their education, the fort was open to supernatural creatures of all ages, who hoped to learn about their abilities and how to control them. The true nature of the fort is still hidden from the human population to this day. All they know is that the fort is dilapidated and dangerous and as a result has taken more lives since it's day as a military fort.
Both sides of the conflict had splinter factions. There were those on both sides who just wanted to live their lives and be at peace with their neighbors but for the humans, there were those who still thought of the supernatural community as an abomination to God and waited, hoping the chance to get rid of the menace would show itself. For the supernatural community, there were those who felt that the humans had shown themselves to be violent and untrustworthy and felt, being stronger, the supernatural community should purge the island of humans and take it for themselves. Cooler heads prevailed and the two sides let each other be, not wanting to risk bringing unwanted attention to their homes.
To this day, the humans of the island are aware that the supernatural live among them though they rarely speak of it to outsiders as the idea of not wanting to bring unwanted attention still remains....that and who would believe them? On the surface, the island seems like a normal community. The supernatural community takes their choice. Some choose to be open about their powers, some choose to hide them.
Over the years, the island has had leaders both human and supernatural and all of them have done their best to keep the peace above all else. Despite that being the primary goal, the island has kept up with the times and is hardly a podunk little island town. There is reliable energy provided from the hydro electric plant. The whole of the island has wifi, though individual buildings sometimes have fiber-optic internet connections as well. There is a ferry that runs a few times a day to the mainland for those that commute, but most people find work either on the island or work from home.
