She has a harmonious relationship with her parents and her siblings. It can even be said that she had a "normal" family life. But that could be because her ability did not manifest until she was already a teenager. She was in high school when she learned about her ability and it was a bit odd how that happened. After having another bizarre dream involving white things, she woke up to find her bed covered with a thin layer of ice. That in itself is unusual enough, but more so because it was summer. Although this discovery frightened her somehow - what if she accidentally freezes people and cause hypothermia? - she decided that the best solution would be to try to control it. She tried to experiment while trying to conceal it from her family. Somehow a small part of her is afraid of how they will react when they find out. Somehow she feels guilty hiding such a huge secret from her family so she decided to move away. She applied for scholarships to schools abroad and prepared herself by learning the English language. She was accepted at NYU and she's currently in her 2nd year (22 years old) under the Liberal Studies program. She's working part-time as a cinema attendant. During some weekends she'd also teach English to other Japanese in the area, mostly adults. Her salaries plus some the money she received from her parents helped her get by with the daily expenses. She has to touch the object to be able to freeze it. It wouldn't work without direct contact. And her body temperature doesn't change whenever she freezes objects. She has managed to control this ability and she can even freeze objects without breaking them. Despite this, she is rather reluctant to touch people because she's afraid of causing hypothermia. She may not be quite generous with hugs, but she makes up for it by not distancing herself - emotionally - from people, or at least trying not to. Her father left when she was still quite young, so it was always just her and her mother growing up. Despite this, she had a rather average time of it for the majority of her life. She got along just fine in school, perhaps not the smartest apple on the tree, but her cheery outlook and friendly disposition made up for that. Not one of the popular girls, but she had her friends, and life was good to Sooyoung. Everything was much the same for her, until she turned 18, and left her beloved Miami for New York City, and college. Having never left her home city, Sooyoung had a desire to stretch her wings (or, her wonderfully long legs~) and see more of the world, and what better place to experience this than The Big Apple? College for Sooyoung was massage school; she'd long since had an interest in alternative medicine. It was whilst she was at college, adjusting to this different, fast-paced city life and working hard in her studies, that she started to notice there was something a little...different about her. At times when she was feeling particularly stressed, or anxious, upset and even angry (although she doesn't often lose her temper) she would notice sometimes how certain things around her became...deformed. Even if it was just a kink to a chair leg that hadn't been there before, or the pen in her hand twisting until it was unusable. It frightened her at first, she couldn't understand, and certainly couldn't control it, so she simply chose to ignore it. It didn't happen very often, and not particularly noticeably, anyway. That was until one day, when the leg of the chair she'd been sitting on just bent, right beneath her, and dropped her to the floor, in the middle of a class. Nothing came of it, her teacher just assumed the chair had been old and too-sat-on, and the other people in her class just laughed it off. But Sooyoung knew that it wasn't just something she could quite ignore anymore. The discovery of her ability is still very recent, and Sooyoung has only a little control over it so far, but she has started to try and practice with it more, to find her limits and what she can and cannot do. Sooyoung has since completed college, received her necessary licenses, and can officially call herself a massage therapist. At the moment she works as one of two massage therapists for a small business, and lives in a small but cozy apartment with a friend, another girl who was in the same class as her. For the most part, she's a well-rounded, cheerful girl; she likes to have fun, and has a particular obsession with shorts, glasses, and cute boys. Keiko does possess the ability to release energy from her hands in the form of concussive blasts or radiant flares, but the after effects are dehabilitating. Background: Keiko was born and raised in Cerritos, California. The only daughter of a genetic researcher and physician, she spent her formative years in the same hospitals and institutions where her parents worked. Homeschooled and befriended by the adults who had nothing better to do than to test on her, Keiko in many ways missed out on her childhood. Not having the opportunity to meet peers her own age until junior high, Keiko found interacting with her classmates alternately exciting and frustrating. Socially awkward, she kept to the outside cliques until high school. Her best friend, also an outsider with his own condition, encouraged her to join the cheerleading squad. Super Junior Human/Mutant/Vampire: Mutant Ability: Self-replication. He can create up to three replicates of himself. Even though each replicate is still essentially him, they often will manifest as a more focused aspect of his personality. When he merges back into one, he gains the memories and knowledge that his divided selves obtained. Background: As the son of a skilled surgeon, Sungmin grew up in a gated upper-middle class suburb in Cerritos, California. He was enrolled in private schools and on the surface it seemed that he had an idyllic childhood. Trying to remain normal, or at least keep a passing semblance of normal was a challenge for Sungmin. His mutation was apparent from birth. It wasn't until he was old enough for school that he was able to have any sort of control over if he existed as one person or as three. Due to the uncontrolled separations and merges during his formative years he had developed a unique case of multiple personality disorder. While Sungmin's mutation was a secret, it was common knowledge to his teachers and peers that the Sungmin they knew one moment could be a different one the next. He often referred to himself as 'we', 'he', or 'they' but rarely would he refer to himself in first person. By the time he was in high school, Sungmin was notorious for his inability to stay in one place. In fact, he often found it hard to keep himself in one place at the same time. Sungmin was a cheerleader, the cheerful and overly energetic guy who seemed to only care about having fun and/or shopping. Sungmin was the stoic martial arts enthusiast who practiced before and after school, the guy who didn't have time for friends and hated superficial people. Sungmin was the nerd who spent his free time reading, the guy with perfect grades who intimidated his teachers with his intense focus on learning. He was all three, able to use his supposed mental illness as a cover for the times he allowed himself to be split for too long. While the frivolous part himself wanted to stay close to home and live off his father's money, he was overruled by the other two. They wanted to go to Columbia University in New York; they weren't going to let the scholarships they worked hard for go to waste. He enrolled in as many classes as the university would allow, he joined different clubs, he took on multiple part-time jobs, anything to make sure that he kept every part of himself busy. Whether it was homesickness or a natural result of growing up, he began to spend less and less time apart. He began to live as one person, instead of merely getting by living as parts of a collective. Even though Sungmin makes an effort to limit the use of his ability, there are times when his class and work schedules overlap and he has little choice but to split. Between classes he works part time at a bookstore and as a waiter. Even though he has scholarships and a father who could afford to take care of his finances, Sungmin likes to rely on himself. The responsibility helps curb his impulse to waste money on unnecessary things; which he still does far more often than he'd like to admit. Super Junior (SJT+SJH) Human/Mutant/Vampire: Vampire Ability: mutants only, ignore this if human or vampire Background: From a very early age, Park Jungsu's parents could tell he was different from other children. It started from the moment he was a baby as a simple walk through the park turned into disaster as a severe suburn errupted over the exposed parts of his body. Much to the concern of his parents, Jungsu was taken to every doctor imaginable, trying to manage his infrequent sunburns, and get him as many blood tests as they could to figure out what was wrong with him. Unfortunately, every test came back inconclusive, and the best remedy the doctors could offer were antiseptic creams for the burns, sun tan lotion for when he went outside, and even bandages to protect his sensitive skin. As a result, Jungsu was often locked away inside the house up in his room, staring out the window at the other children who got to play with one another while he sat inside, reading, or studying. It wasn't as though Jungsu didn't have friends since his parents often made playdates for him, but who wanted to play with the freak? Because of being alone, with the exception of his older sister, Jungsu learned to love music and the fashion world. He received lessons on how to play the piano properly along with the guitar, composing music, and even lyrics to go along with it, but his passion was always modeling. He had the look and the drive, but because of how easy he was able to burn held him back, not to mention at times debilitating stomach cramps from a hunger he could not suffice, could not control. It wasn't until one fateful day when he was in his early teens, around fifteen or so that the hunger grew too strong for him. Feeling himself grow weak, nearly falling over in pain, the only thing he could remember were sharpened teeth growing inside his mouth and the sister who had been his only friend cowering in terror from him; puncture wounds on her neck as she bled. Terrified of what he had done to her and terrified of himself, Jungsu fled the house with only what he needed packed away in his bag slung over his shoulder. There wasn't many places for him to go or friends he could rely on, but fate seemed to be on his side for a time as his looks attracted one man who could see the potential in him for modeling as his looks just screamed to be shown. From then on, Jungsu changed his name to Eeteuk, trying to hide a past he was afraid of, masking what he really was. Somehow he managed to keep his spirits up through everything, seemingly looking as though he were a happy go lucky man who had everything he could want, but in reality, he was simply hurt, afraid of what he was, learning that he wanted the blood from other lifeforms, and feeding off of it to satisfy a craving that needed to be fed. November 2nd, 2008 10:38 pm Back-up, Reboot and Delete! [ ] secret_code [ mood | calm ] Hi everyone. ♥ I'm back from an unannounced hiatus (sorry about that XD;;) now that university is FINALLY over. One and a half essays and an exam to go, and it's over completely. But I'm not swamped anymore, so here I am! Anyway, with that said, I've decided to tidy things up for myself to make it easier to re-integrate. Ryeowook (sing_it) is an anti-social little fellow anyway, so he'll stay as is and just have taken a break for a while. XD I am unfortunately going to drop Horan (play_girl). Just not enough interest to revive her, I guess. As for Aya (secret_code, this account), I've decided that it's easier for me to reboot her. She'll have the same history, same story, but basically everything she's experienced here is wiped clean. (Which is fine cos she really only talked to Jongwoon anyway, for the most part.
