Laura & Megan
Laura worked efficiently, making sure to get to everything she could and do it properly so it would be less for Megan to worry about later. It was easy to keep her hands busy and have a conversation at the same time, it was like falling back into an old familiar pattern. For a few minutes, it almost seemed like she was back home, just working in a different setting.
She frowned, feeling badly for bringing up a sore subject, but the woman had offered the information voluntarily. "I'm sorry that you were taken away from that. It sounds like it was an exciting way to live. Better than anything here, I'm sure."
At the question, Laura shrugged but kept her eyes on cleaning up. "I don't know. I never did anything very fancy or creative before. Just a lot of service type stuff, a little retail, in bars and coffee shops and a bookstore once. I don't have a ton of job skills. I just like to keep busy."
Laura paused for a moment, rubbing her forehead with the back of her hand. "I used to bake a lot. Not as much here. I don't know if I was ever really good at it, but my family likes the things I make, I suppose that's all that matters."
