As he stepped up to her Meg lit up instantly. Her arms lifted, winding around his neck in a hug. His scent was inhaled and though she knew it’d only been a day or so since they’d seen each other - she wasn’t including the texting they did back and forth like teenagers - it was like they’d been apart for years. She held him close and then pulled away slightly, enough to swivel around to face him better.
“Hey! Of course I was going to come, silly. It’s your birthday! Happy Birthday.” Her smile evened out. The cupcake was gathered and slid across the counter toward him. “This is for you, it’s made with love and birthday magic, don’t tell anyone.” A playful wink would be given.
Her gaze would wander, touching each person who stood around where the group was, before she glanced back at him. “So far so good? Did you get anything amazing as a present?”
