“Hey,” Ian shrugged, frame straightening up a touch, “Could be worse, right? You could not have anything at all. I’ve seen places like that, not that it probably matters to you, where people live in fear without anything at all. No food, no recreation, trying their best to survive.” Ian cleared his throat, sighing. “Sorry. But you have it better than you think.”
When her question came he let her get close to keep it out of the line of being picked up on, “Don’t know. Not my call. Personally I think some of this shit is amazing, but I’m not running the place, either.” A step backward would be taken to keep up appearances.
“Stay off of your roof. Is that clear?” A bit of a bark in his voice at her but it was mostly for show.
