Who: Remy and Daryn When: after the pizza party Where: Daryn’s What: Talking about plans
A lot was happening and very quickly so Remy was trying to make sure he kept in close contact with everyone, and especially with Daryn and Phobia. He was on edge, which was probably to be expected. He wanted to make sure everything was going to work out and that everyone was safe but there was bound to be casualties. He tried not to think about it. The best way to avoid anything bad happening was to plan for everything. So that was what he was trying to do.
After stopping to get coffee Remy headed over to Daryn’s. He hadn’t told her he was coming so he hoped he wasn’t interrupting. If he was, he would apologize and come back. Walking up to her door he knocked then waited until there was an answer.
---
Daryn was at home, unexpectedly. She had been going to the clinic less and less lately, it was just too hard to focus, so she only went when there was a serious need for her to be there. Cleaning up from her latest mess, she returned an up-ended chair to it’s rightful position and moved to answer the door. Surprised to see Remy, she stepped aside to allow him inside. Hello.
--
Remy smiled when Daryn opened the door and handed over one of the coffee cups to her. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything. I just thought it might be good to touch base or talk before we get the whole group together. And I feel like I haven’t really talked to you, just you, in a while. So here I am.” He stepped in and looked around before turning his attention back to her. “Is everything okay with you?”
---
Taking the offered coffee hesitantly, she closed the door behind him and led him further inside. The place was neat as usual, but things looked slightly out of order, like everything had been moved just slightly and in the process threw everything off. Thank you for the coffee. And no, you’re not interrupting. Things are… okay. Is everything alright with you?
--
Remy didn’t really notice that thing were out of order. He was more focused on Daryn and how she was acting. He didn’t quite believe her that things were okay but calling her out on that wouldn’t exactly work either. “I’m good. Antsy mostly. And I feel like I’m running on pure caffeine. My mind won’t shut up with all of the planning but I think that’s to be expected.” He shrugged then took a seat on the couch, looking up at her. “How’s the clinic?”
---
Taking a seat across from him, Daryn studied Remy curiously before taking a sip of her coffee. I’m not sure. I haven’t been going as often as I should. Is there anything I can do to help? Either with the planning or the antsy-ness?
--
“I don’t think anyone or anything can help with me being antsy. I’ll be that way until we say go.” Remy smiled over at her. “Planning, definitely. That’s one of the things I wanted to talk to you about. I was thinking you could lead the team going to the docks. It’s a good place to gather everyone as we work through and would be a good location for triage of any wounded, which you would be the best at handling. And you could keep in touch with the other two teams the easiest. If you’re up for it.”
---
Daryn listened and then nodded in agreement. That works. I’ve been going out to the beach to try to make contact with the mainland, so I’ve been tracking guard movement down that way anyway. Shift changes, the usual people posted there, all of those things.
--
Remy nodded as she spoke. “Perfect. That will definitely help. Recon is going to be huge and you already have a head start.” He knew Daryn would be good for the job and she’d be all in, just like the rest of them. “Have you had any luck making contact?”
---
Daryn rubbed her forehead and shook her head no. I need more focus. And it would help if there was one or two specific people I was trying to get in touch with. But for now, I am just trying to reach out to random minds and hope they listen and believe me. She took a deep breath and took another sip of coffee, hoping it would help revitalize her. Is there anything else I can do?
--
Remy nodded and listened as she spoke. He wasn’t going to be any help with the telepathy. Daryn’s was so much stronger than his own so he couldn’t even offer advice. “I’ll cross my fingers for that.” He smiled. At her question he thought for a moment. “My first thought is stockpile. Medical supplies and the like. We’re likely going to need them. But you have already been doing pretty much that.” He smiled. “But you would know better than me what we would need in that situation so I will leave that up to you. And if you need help, pull in whomever you need.”
---
Daryn watched Remy for a moment before looking to the floor with a few slow nods. Her jaw tensed for a moment before she forced herself to try to relax and take another sip of coffee. And you have a weapons stockpile?
--
“I do.” Remy answered her question with a nod then looked at her for a moment. He had seen the jaw tense and the fact that she had to force herself to relax. Something was going on and she wasn’t talking to him. He didn’t like that. “What is on your mind?” He asked softly.
---
Daryn didn’t respond for a few moments but then finally looked up to him. Everything. Usually it’s other people’s minds I have a hard time blocking out, but lately it’s my own causing the problems. I’m losing my grip, my control. It feels like I’m losing my place and this is not the time to be preoccupied with all of that.
---
Remy set down his coffee and reached out to take her hand, holding it gently. “And worrying about it and trying to just pretend it’s not happening isn’t going to help.” He spoke gently. He wasn’t telling her anything she didn’t already know. “Does meditation help at all? It helps me sometimes when I actually take the time.” He tried to think of other things he could suggest. “Is there anything I can do to help?”
---
She shook her head no slightly to the mention of meditation, but she hadn’t really tried. She stared at their hands for a moment before slowly pulling it away to rake her fingers back through her hair. Tell me the truth. Tell me if I am still really a part of this fight, a real part of the Faction, or if you’re just keeping me involved because you know I won’t walk away from it.
---
“That’s easy. You are still very much a part of this fight. You are as involved as I am. The only reason I would ever ask you to step back from anything would be for Phoenix. She needs her mom. But you are still a major part of this. We wouldn’t be where we are without you and this fight isn’t over and I fully expect you fighting to the end.” Remy meant every word he said and she would know that.
---
Daryn listened as Remy spoke, watching him intently. When he finished, she nodded and looked away again. She needs me, but that isn’t a reason to step back. If anything, she makes me fight harder than ever. I won’t let her be stuck here, I won’t ruin her life by making her grow up on this island. She deserves to know what a real life is, to live a good life with freedom.
--
Remy nodded. “Good. Then this fight is for her. And everyone else who deserves to have a life outside of this hell hole.” He touched her arm and squeezed gently. “So we will focus on getting out of here. Which means when I ask you about meditation you actually try.” He smiled at her and gave her a little wink. “We all need you. We need each other if we’re going to get out of here. ”
---
I will try. Is there anything else you need me to do to help? She needed things to focus on, she was sure that would help with things too.
--
Remy nodded. “Recon and supplies. That’s number one right now. And recruit anyone you can. We’re going to need as many people on our side as possible. Phobia is getting recon on the main offices. Do you still have the information from when we raided the barracks back during the Christmas party?”
---
Daryn nodded thoughtfully. She could do those things easily, although she was hesitant to pull anyone else into the situation, wanting to protect as many as possible. I still have the info. What about the device Phobia learned about when he was detained?
---
Remy blinked at her for a moment when she mentioned the device. “I hadn’t even thought about that.” He frowned then scratched at his chin. “I’m not sure what we can even do to fight back against that. Unless you have any ideas we’ll just have to move forward and hope they can’t use it as a weapon in a surprise attack.”
---
Daryn arched a brow at Remy. Something as dangerous and powerful as that device couldn’t be left in the hands of the government. But Remy had enough to worry about. I’ll handle it. If that’s okay with you.
—
Remy was of the opinion they didn’t have time to find it to neutralize it but he wasn’t about to discourage anything. That could be huge so he was glad she was willing. “Definitely. And if I can help just say so. I just didn’t think we had the time or resources to worry but anything you can do would obviously help all involved.”
—-
Daryn nodded. I’ll get some more info from Phobia. I won’t waste any resources on it, I can do it myself with just some careful planning. And time wasn’t much of an issue, lack of sleep offers a lot of time for planning.
