Who: Thursday and Matty What: Relaxation and togetherness When: Day one after the explosion: evening. Where: Matty’s and Thursday’s
Home. Wonderful glorious wonderful beautiful wonderful nice - did he say wonderful already? - home. Matty was tired. His wings ached like that hadn’t in a very long time. His back ached. His arms ached. His entire body ached but he had been useful. He helped people out. People were safe. They were with their loved ones. There were still people at the site and Matty wanted to stay and keep helping but he needed a break. At least there wasn’t the risk of the building falling down anymore. He hoped.
Once through the door to their house, Matty made a beeline to the living room and flopped, face first, onto the floor. His wings spread out behind him. He probably looked like he was a bird that smooshed too fast into a glass window. But on the floor. And without glass. So. Maybe not.
“I’m never moving again,” Matty mumbled to the floor.
---
Thursday was exhausted as well, though for him it was more mental and exhaustion from exercising his ability that he rarely used. He had a splitting headache. One he hadn’t had since….he didn’t want to think about that time. He had taken as many Excedrin as he dared and had been laying with ice over his face. It helped enough that he wasn’t going to fall over if he stood up straight.
When Matty flopped onto the floor Thursday pushed himself up and looked over at his friend. “We both know that’s not true. But I’ll do what I can to help you feel better.” Grabbing a pillow he stepped over and helped Matty lift enough to put it under his head. “Stay right there. Not like I expect you to move much.” He pressed a kiss into Matty’s hair then headed to the kitchen to heat up some hot backs.
---
“Thank you,” Matty said accepting the pillow. He reached to take Thursday’s hand. He didn’t really need anything more but to have Thursday with him. Thursday was safe and he really wanted to keep him near. He didn’t like how it felt before. He thought about getting up to follow Thursday but, urgh, moving. Nope.
“We should cuddle,” Matty said to Thursday. That required getting off the floor. Maybe he could do that for cuddles, “You. Me. Cuddles. Heaven.”
---
Thursday squeezed Matty’s hand. He was glad that they were both safe. For him he had gotten out fairly easily thanks to Phobia. But both he and Matty had gone back in many times to help people as much as possible. That was just the way they worked even if they were both paying for it now. But he might be able to help Matty feel better even if there was nothing that would help his head.
“We’ll cuddle in a minute. I want to work on your muscles. To help you feel better. Then we can cuddle.” Once he got the heat packs ready he came back out to Matty. Sitting down beside him he laid the heat back along his back to help ease the muscles there. Once that was in place he began to gently massage Matty’s wings with his hands. “You have to be exhausted.”
---
Matty closed his eyes. Tomorrow he knew they both would go back. They would both go to the site until everyone was out. Matty may have worked hard but he felt pretty useless compared to a lot of the others; Thursday could go in. Phobia could go in anywhere. Zayne was healing people. But he could help in some way and that was enough.
He made a happy noise when he felt the heat pack. Oh, he was going to turn into happy goo with that alone but then he felt Thursday’s hands. Oh my god. That was heaven. He turned his face to look at Thursday and grumbled, “That’s not fair.” It felt so good, “You must be too. You should be resting too.”
---
Thursday would tell Matty that he was helping. They needed him. But Matty hadn’t argued so Thursday hadn’t needed to help build him back up. They were all helping. Everyone was doing what they could to help get those out who were still trapped and they would all continue to work at it until everyone was out. Period. No matter the toll on their own bodies.
“I am resting.” Thursday smiled. He was half laying on Matty, completely at home as he kept his fingers working gently over those wonderful wings. He could feel the tension in Matty’s muscles and he was doing what he could to help it. “This is extremely relaxing and I’m quite happy where I am.”
---
“Can’t argue. Feels too good,” Matty said. He closed his eyes for a moment, allowing himself to focus on Thursday’s touch. Any day, Matty loved the touch of Thursday’s hands on his wings. Tonight it felt that much better. He opened his eyes to try to look at Thursday and said, “Though now I may ask you to never move again. Just stay there.” Okay. He was going to start putting footnotes to that statement. Tomorrow they would move. Tomorrow they would get the rest of the people out and then they would come back here and do this all over again.
“I hope nothing happens overnight,” Matty said softly, “A part of me wonders if we should still be there, just in case.”
---
“Good. you’re not allowed to argue.” Thursday chuckled softly. He had gotten to know Matty’s wings and really the rest of his body quite well over the years. Which came in handy when they were being naughty but right now it was good to know because he could help. “Well I don’t plan to move for a while. Except to reheat these when they get cold. So you don’t need to worry about that.” Leaning down he pressed a kiss to Matty’s shoulder.
At his words Thursday sighed softly. “Yeah. I keep thinking that too but neither one of us will be able to prevent anything and if we’re needed we’ll be contacted.”
---
“You don’t need to reheat them. Just lay on me. You’re warm,” Matty replied. That worked, right? Thursday as a heating pad? Or just Thursday close was heaven. Those hands. That kiss. Matty made another happy sound. Tomorrow he would return the favour. Tomorrow he would massage Thursday. Tonight he was making no efforts to stop him.
“You’re right,” Matty said. He fell silent for a moment, “I keep thinking about those still inside,” and those outside, waiting for their loved ones to be rescued, “What could have caused this? Argh. I should not be thinking.”
---
Thursday chuckled. “That won’t help your muscles. But it doesn’t take long to reheat them. So I won’t have to leave you for long. And once we’re both relaxed we can curl up in bed and cuddle and sleep until morning.” At which time they would go back out and do it all again. And tomorrow they would both be hurting even more. But it was worth it if they got to help people.
At Matty’s words Thursday pressed a kiss to his shoulder again. “Seeing the damage. Both to the people and the building I keep thinking it had to be some sort of explosion. Either intentional or unintentional.” Thursday sighed. “Okay don’t move. I’ll be right back.” Getting up he headed to the kitchen to warm up the hotpacks again and get them each something to drink. They needed to focus on each other and themselves right now to be in the best shape possible for tomorrow.
