Jen closed her eyes and tried to find comfort and peace. It was hard, it was a scary time, but she felt that missing part of her near, it entered April and broke off a piece of her that passed to Jen. The feeling wasn’t scary or sad or anything bad. She was suddenly filled with a warmth, as if that part of her was completed again. She felt hope for the first time in a while and her whole body felt light... like she was floating.

What had felt like a long time, hours maybe, had really only been minutes, less than five actually. As a nurse tried to jury rig a way to hang her IV, Jen stirred. Her eyes squinted as she blinked. There wasn’t a lot of light, some lanterns and flashlights, but the colors were back. She slowly lifted her hand to her head and the nurse called for the doctor as she moved the girl’s hand back. “Shhh, hold still... do you know your name? Where you are?”
