character: April and NPCs setting: Beginning at April's house, Saturday, April 14th, evening summary: No more happy birthdays
Stepping into her house after spending the day working at the coffee shop, April shed her coat and flopped down to sit on the couch. In the last few weeks, April's usual happy mood had weakened, until today, when it had completely disappeared. She wasn't grumpy per se, but being hopeful and bouncy and optimistic had gotten her no where. Everyone around her was miserable, she felt like her joy helped no one. And she finally began to realize, that it wasn't helping her either. She was just lying to herself. Things weren't going to be okay. In fact, in the year since she woke up, very little had improved at all. Sure, she knew who she was now, but in the end that had only gotten her into trouble when a guard overheard her mentioning something about her old life. Luckily, all it resulted in was a rather stern talking that the Facility, but it still left April afraid, and more than that, sad. She couldn't have her old life, as horrible as it sounded on paper, and she couldn't really have much of a life here. No one wanted a life here, it seemed. It was all too much doom and gloom, and April didn't have the stamina or the energy to try to fight it any longer.
And today was her 'birthday.' Not the real one of course, but the real one didn't matter. After just sitting and moping for almost an hour, trying her best to shake her sour mood, April finally got up from the couch and ventured into the kitchen. Piles of candy had gone untouched for weeks, but she did reach for a piece of the cake that Phobia had baked for her. She paused for a moment to make a wish, one very very big wish, and then blew it out. She was about to take a bite of it when there was a knock at her door. April smiled, one of her usual bright smiles, thinking that hopefully it was Phobia since they'd planned to hang out. Or maybe it was Rose, or Zayne, or Thursday, or any of the many people she considered friends. She'd even be happy to meet a stranger now, a friendly distraction was welcome.
Eagerly moving to open the door, her smile disappeared when she found two guards on the other side of her door. Speechless, she just blinked and waited for them to speak.
"You are Miss April? You'll have to come with us. We'd like to ask you some questions about your connection to the Faction." The taller of the two spoke while the other man stepped aside and motioned for her to come with them.
Confused, April frowned. "Connection to the what? I don't know that word."
Smirking, the speaker of the two just shook his head. "Now really isn't the time to play dumb, Miss. It's best if you just come along with us and get the matter settled."
Hesitantly, April stepped out, leaving the door slightly ajar, her things left inside. "I'm not dumb, I just don't know what you're talking about. I don't want to get into any more trouble."
The shorter man took April's arm, escorting her with his partner away from her house. "They just want to know how you got your file."
Glancing between the two, April decided not to answer. At least not to these two. Plus, that would give her time to come up with something, she definitely wasn't going to say anything to these people about her friends. "Oh. Okay." They walked in silence, but the closer they got to the Facility, the more April began to tremble. That place was scary, and she didn't want to go in there. But she had to, she didn't want to get anyone else into trouble. Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself, but instead shifted into her child form as they reached the steps to the building. She stopped in her tracks and briefly considered running, but before she could do any more than turn and move a few steps, one of the guards grabbed her and lifted her up and over his shoulder. Kicking and screaming, little April was carried off into the Facility.
