The previous day Alec had pointed out the guard who he'd seen fleeing Avery's attack scene. Unfortunately he'd only seen one guard. Jake knew who the guy was, he'd frequently seen him harassing residents and had stepped in before. A safe assumption, based on the face that the guy tended to work with the same person on shifts, Jake could figure out who guard number two was. He was planning on going to meet Avery that day and had just changed into some civilian clothing to head to her place when he was shoulder checked by someone passing in the hallway- despite having more than enough room to pass. As Jake shrugged it off- it wasn't an unusual event most mutant Agents and Guards dealt with harassment among their peers. As he watched the man's back walk away from him though, he realized who it was. "Hey, Lynch... got a sec?" He called out.
With a roll of his eye the guard turned around to face Jake. It wasn't unknown that Jake had somehow secured a golden ticket. Some of the guards seemed to think he got special treatment and while they weren't official above him they tended to give him some respect- at least in public. No one knew what Jake had done to be the 'favorite' but it had to have been something big. Of course, even Jake didn't know it was more concern about the conditioning wearing off, which is why they put him through so much training and only used him in active missions and not for every day grunt work. A teleporter was a valuable asset. Still Lynch had never really hidden his disdain for the younger man. "What is it Hale? We don't have time to fuck around. Some of us actually have jobs to do."
Jobs, yea. "Just had a question about New Years." He said, taking a couple steps toward the man. "You and Keenan work together?" Jake asked, nodding to the man next to Lynch.
Lynch crossed his arms defensively and raised his head in an assertive mood. "Look, we go not beef with you, the brass already questioned us- along with everyone else. We were just doin our jobs."
Heat rose in Jake as Lynch spoke so dismissively of the situation. "So, then you didn't see a young woman get assaulted in an alley near the residents then?" He asked, his tone firm and clearly knew the answer as he took a few more steps closer, now withing reach of the Guard.
"Oh, her, yea she was violating the rules. When we went to question her, she got violent." Lynch said with a cocky smirk. "Mutie then attacked us with her powers- we were just defendin' ourselves."
Rage soared in the young man and he lunged at the guard, his fists grabbed the collar of his jacket as he turned and slammed the man against the wall. "Any other person an I might believe you Lynch. But that girl wouldn't hurt a god damn fly." His voice was eerily calm as Keenan stumbled back a few steps spouting words to try to break up the situation. Jake was normally quiet and subdued around the barracks, even those who participated in his training sessions hadn't seen him really angry or overly emotional. "Who's idea was it?" Jake asked, slamming Lynch against the wall when he stuttered and failed to answer. "Was it you or Keenan who decided to drag an innocent girl into an alley and beat the crap out of her, huh?" Another slam.
Lynch tried to reach for his baton and Jake release one hand and snatched his wrist, finger pressing into the soft underside until the baton clattered to the floor. He then slammed the man's arm up and into the wall- there was a popping sound. "It was Keenan's!" Lynch cried as the pain from his now dislocated shoulder shot through him. "We were drunk and he saw her and said, look at the easy mark. Wanna have some fun?"
Jake pulled Lynch forward violently and drew his knee into his gut and let the man tumble to the floor and turned to the other guard. "This true?" He asked, his voice calm but his eyes seemed to be on fire. "IS IT TRUE?" Jake yelled, stepped up to the man.
"Fuck you mutie!" Keenan said, trying to not show the fear. "You think you're all so special? Well you're not. You're freaks, a mistake." He reached out and pushed Jake's chest, causing the young man to take a few steps back. "And you? You're the worse of all. You think you're some holier than thou fucker because you don't have to do grunt work like us? You're nothing. You're a neutered tool." The comment referred the leash they had on Jake's powers. "That little mutie was easy pickin's. She didn't even try to fight back. God it felt good to crack some mutie skull."
Jake's fist balled up and cracked across Keenan's face before he could finish the last word. A audible crack of the man's nose was heard as well with at least one of Jake's fingers. He didn't seem to care however as he continued to strike the man and force him back against the wall. Blow after blow the whole ordeal took minutes. By the time Jake fully started to wail on him that someone arrived and in seconds Jake had two guards pulling him off Keenan. "Hale!" A booming voice chimed down the hallway, the officer in charge.
The young man immediately stopped resisting those who had his arms and they released him as the officer approached and Jake stood at attention. "Sir." He said, as if his knuckles weren't bruised and bloody.
"What is the meaning of this." He asked, stepping forward and uncomfortably close to Jakob.
Taking a breath and not seeming phased by the officer he gave his debrief. "Sir! I confronted these man about their actions on New Years and discovered they lied in their report about what happened. Sir!"
The officer looked at the two men who were both on the floor moaning slightly in pain. "And instead of reporting it, you decided to... what? Reenact the night on your own?"
Jake glanced between the men and then to the officer. "Sir. I know what I did was wrong. I am ready to take whatever punishment you deem necessary. I should not have let my anger-" And feelings for Avery. "cloud my judgement. Sir."
The older man sighed and looked the boy over. Special treatment only went so far, and an example needed to be made. He nodded to the two Guards who'd pulled Jake off Keenan. "Take him to detention."
As the two guards escorted Jake off he paused and turned back. "Sir. If I can ask the length of my detainment?" He started, adding. "I only ask because I have a scheduled session with the training department on Tuesday and if I'm still detained I think it only proper to inform him of the cancellation."
The officer nodded. "We'll make sure he knows." With that the guards continued on and Jake could hear Lynch and Keenan being told that they were going to medical and then a talk was going to be had about their report.
