Shouldn't have to get a replacement, Rahim pointed out. Shouldn't have to deal with that bullshit. Bad enough we're on an island. They don't have to keep reminding us who holds the key off this rock. Rahim didn't often dwell on that kind of mentality. He imagined it had something to do with the guards overcompensating, since most of the residents here had power that made them more powerful than their jailers. But sometimes, the situation pissed him off, and reminded him why he was pissed in the first place.
Rahim glanced toward Daryn and snorted. You know if you take a nap, the hospital will still be standing when you get back, he told her rationally, sounding only slightly amused. You've been pushing yourself too hard, he thought more seriously, with just the slightest touch of what could be written off as actual concern. Rahim could physically feel it - Daryn felt drained, physically drained of energy. Rahim hadn't absorbed much energy today, his eyes were still a dim gray, rather than their bright grey, near white color. But he could still sense the energy in every person he passed. Daryn felt like she was near running on empty.
