Rahim had given Zoe her space to do whatever she needed to do to acclimate to a new ability, and didn't much mention the favor until she let him know she had everything set up. It was probably a dick move to even ask her to do this. It required more work from her than it did from him, and he hadn't really thought it through all the way when he'd asked. He wanted to mask his emotions better so he didn't overwhelm Avery during training her, but he probably should've considered overwhelming Zoe, who had never used empathy before.
He probably would've continued not thinking about it if Echo hadn't thrown that conversation at him the day before. He was already annoyed, walking through the door. And that was why he needed to do this. On this island, he existed in a completely different world. The longer he went living outside of the life he'd made for himself on the mainland, the farther he got from it, the easier it was to block out. He didn't have to feel anger or agitation about missing out on all of that until he was home, alone. Echo being here was breaking down that indifference, forcing him to feel actual emotions. Emotions he didn't have to worry about when he'd pressured Avery into coming to train.
He wore jeans and a t-shirt, his hair long, pulled back together down his back by a rubber band. He crossed the room slowly. "Yeah," he said. He had no training in hospital shit, or technology shit, so he knew next to nothing about EEG machines. Cleverly, he'd deduced, they did some type of brain scanning type of thing. "You?"
