I’ve been dreaming about this for days.
After playing with Daisy for a while Ehren went back to his apartment and began to write. His old typewriter was at least still intact and because he had no manuscripts he’d figured he’d start writing. He still didn’t know how he was going to access his visions so he decided now would be a good time to write something original. Why not about a man and his dog?
He had so many memories of the original Daisy, she came up in his mind constantly but as he began to write his thoughts kept going to Logan. He wondered if Logan would be charged, if he’d even ever be able to actually see the other man outside that prison cell.
It was then he felt something in the back of his mind. It was like a door, maybe a creative door? The only way to find out was to step through it. And so he did and his heartbeat began to quicken, his face flush and the world around him began to disappear.
In place of it he was outside the exit of where Logan was being held. It was a sunny day so it must have been summer. The air was nice and the sun relaxed him. He watched as a few people stood by, some faces he recognized, some he didn’t. His distraction came to a halt when the doors opened and out stepped Logan. He looked worse for wear but he was alive and free!
His hair was matted, tangled, but he was eager to wash away the dirt and grime. Clutching what was in his pockets when he was detained, Logan wandered out of the detention facility wearing the uniform he had come into the holding center with. It was still stained with grease, sweat. He couldn’t care less though - the sunshine was warm on his skin, the small breeze was refreshing. He didn’t get sunlight in his cell, just brick and metal.
Wrists were still bruised from the shackles but he ignored that. Some of the people standing outside began to boo - he ignored them too. Whatever happiness he felt faded quickly and began to brew into irritation. He’d been proven innocent and yet people still felt as if he’d hurt that guard or played a role in it.
Turning away, Logan began to make his way toward the complex where he lived.
He must not have seen Ehren, was Ehren here in this vision? And if he wasn’t, why not? He followed Logan toward the complex and decided a good shout was necessary. “Logan!” He yelled, hoping it might get the man’s attention. He didn’t know, he never really knew if what he was doing was actually happening or if it was just a feeble attempt at helping people in the future.
He couldn’t imagine any reason he wouldn’t be there, he was trying so hard to find a defense for Logan that it would be insulting not to be there when he was released. At the same time no one wanted to see Logan more than Ehren did.
Distracted, it was possible he had overlooked the many faces peering at him because of those who had been judging him. At the call of his name Logan paused and looked over his shoulder. When he saw Ehren a sigh of relief was given. Fuck everything in his hands. It all was thrown to the ground in a scatter of whatever and he rushed over toward the smaller man.
Sweeping Ehren into his arms he picked the man up off of his feet, twirled him around and then set him down. “Hi.”
Relief began to swim through him. There was no doubt in his mind that Ehren had fought tooth and nail to help him and he was more than grateful. There was no way he could ever repay the other man for that.
A smile came to Ehren’s face, complete as he could ever feel it and he felt a rush as Logan picked him up off the ground and spun him around. Chuckling as he came back down to the ground he looked at the state of Logan. It didn’t look like anyone had bathed him the whole time he was there and he didn’t smell any better but Ehren didn’t care. Nothing about Logan could put him off of the other man.
He wrapped his arms easily around Logan, like that’s where they belonged. “I’m so glad you’re out. I’ve been dreaming about this for days.” Which was odd because Ehren hadn’t had any dreams yet, but maybe he’d start to soon. “But you could probably use a shower. Let’s get you home. There might be a little puppy waiting there for you.” He smirked, leaning up to press the smallest of kisses to his lips.
He laughed. That was an understatement. “Daisy?” He inquired as a father might his child. He was anxious to see her. Would she remember him? “Shower for sure, but only if you come with me.” The last part was said in a breath as if they were sharing a secret. He needed his wedding ring, too. He’d promised to come back for it.
Those kisses were welcome and then he was moving along after Ehren, catching a hand in his own.
“Deal.” Ehren replied with a smirk and grabbed Logan’s hand after he picked up his things. And then the world began to move around him, like a tornado the images spiraled out of his eyeline. The grim apartment that had been ransacked started to take its place and Ehren’s was back where he’d been.
This was the first vision he ever had of himself where things actually went well for him. He felt a little lightheaded but nothing else was ailing him. He had his first vision since Caspian had done his work and tears of joy came to his eyes. Logan was going to be freed, but only if things went down the same path to that direct timeline. He didn’t know if he’d be able to do that, he’d never seen an outcome that he had any actual control of before.
Still, Logan was going to be freed, which meant he needed to keep fighting and needed to keep finding the evidence that would free him.
