Ezra frowned, his jaw tightening at Daryn's words. He would need to be vigilant. His memories of army training seemed to filter back in. It was very disheartening. The clouds were now above them, growing heavy with moisture and building higher in the sky with the wind's uplift.
He watched her and began to follow her, shifting his weight a little due to the ache of what was left of his right leg. Then Ezra stopped at the woman's words. He hadn't said a thing about loved ones. From what he had seen in the last week, he had not seen any families on the island. Lightning flashed and crackled through the clouds.
"What?" he asked as the thunder rumbled above them. Ezra lengthened his strides to get ahead of Daryn and turn to block her.
