Who: Daryn & Levi What: Revisiting the scene of the crime When: Saturday, August 17th, late evening Where:The Marketplace Rating: TBD Status: In progress
It had been just over a month since the first guard was found wounded, and now nearly two weeks since the other was murdered. And every evening, just after curfew, Daryn made her way to each location, first the square outside the facility, and now to the Marketplace, to survey what was left of those two events. She was unsurprised that the first situation went relatively unnoticed, and downright amused that more people cared about the accused than the victim the second time around. It was unfortunate that an innocent man was jailed, but the innocent were taken in too often around here and only once in a while did people seem to truly care. And it never lasted long. Nothing around here ever lasted very long.
Slowly circling what remained of the bloodstains on the sidewalk, Daryn smiled faintly to herself. At least the man had been sent back home to his family for burial. That was more than any mutant would get. Someone, somewhere would acknowledge the sacrifice he'd made. Here, so far, the message seemed to fall on deaf ears. If anyone was listening at all, they were finding a message of their own, and not the blatant one the perpetrator had intended. Things had changed so much in the last two years, either people were far more self-centered now, or they'd lost interest in freedom and equality. Maybe it was a bit of both.
Taking a deep breath, she turned and made the walk back toward her apartment building. She moved at a slow, leisurely pace. If anyone was out at this hour, other than guards, she highly doubted they'd want to encounter her. So she moved about her business without a rush, like the ghost she had become.
