Those words of assurance warmed her and Kyrie would nod with gratitude and understanding. Perhaps she was naive to take the word of a stranger but then again she was easy to trust and Adam seemed genuine to her. He had been kind so far, inviting and personable. Plus he was easy to look at and be around, so she decided he couldn’t be up to no good.
“You’re welcome. I hope that your days ahead are better than today.” It was all the assurance and warmth she could offer on that subject, though her thoughts would be with him as he figured out what this place was. Her cheeks would color a touch at his compliment. “You’re very kind.”
Cookies were always welcomed - if she didn’t eat them all certainly her brothers would. “I’ll think about it, for sure. Things are scarce but I do have favorites.” That was the problem for being here as long as she had been. You tended to get used to the minimal options and forget that the outside world was plump and ripe with much more.
With a smile and a small wave, Kyrie turned and headed toward the front door. “Sleep well,” she called, casting a glance at him over a shoulder before she opened the door and slipped out into what remained of the night.
