Lyon couldn't help but crack a smile as Riff spoke about commitment and enthusiasm. Riff would have had no way of knowing, but Lyon was once a businessman, so he knew how important punctuality, loyalty and follow-through was when it came to these deals. He wasn't concerned about his side of the deal. The only thing keeping him from following through was Rene, and if he couldn't come he just wouldn't send a letter. He'd find a way to get around not being able to come when Riff needed him. If all they did was act at night, it didn't pose much of a problem to him because he always made sure to have Rene in bed by at least nine.
He held up his right hand and waved it lazily to the side as if to reassure Riff he had nothing to worry about. "My punctuality should be your last concern. I have no intention of breaking my end of our bargain, whether you trust me or not." If Riff was every bit as intelligent as Lyon thought, the latter would naturally be the correct answer to that one...
"So we're agreed, then. The details of our alliance have been set in stone. Now, the details of the termination of our alliance must be discussed. I only have one stipulation there: if at any moment you reveal my identity, or anything associating to my 'crusade' as you call it, your life is forfeit to me."
As he said those words, his smile faded. His eyes stared right at Riff's, as if to drive in the force of those words. He waited until their weight settled into Riff's mind.
