That was a little more of an erudite observation than Lyon had expected from the boy. He seemed to understand some of what Lyon was trying to convey with regards to his feelings about Nelabasis. He nodded quietly.
"It seems as if you've done more thinking on this than I originally thought," Lyon began, staring up at the darkness of the night sky. "Nelabasis seeks those who lack the power to change their circumstances and invigorates their abilities to control their lives with his wish-fulfilling powers. Once he finds those he seeks, he grants their wishes without a second thought... and claims payment in the way that Death himself claims a soul for Hell. It's a cold, calculating existence he leads that commands understanding we humans are incapable of... allow me to make this perfectly clear: Nelabasis is my enemy. It's true I am contract bound to do his bidding, but for my own gain. Not for his. As it just so happens, his goals and mine intertwine together. The time will one day come when I will be in the position to strike him down... and when that time does come, I fully intend to take advantage of it and do what must be done.
I'm not open to the idea of having a partner. I wasn't lying earlier when I said that allies just complicate things... but your view of Nelabasis is a bit more thoughtful than I originally considered. What exactly is it that you have to gain by allying yourself with me?"
