New. Everything was new, from the clothes on his back to family ties he was still trying to terms with. And everything had changed. Someone had turned his familiar, little world upside down and he didn't want to think about it. At all. It hadn't taken all that long to see that this family, the Blackthornes, were more than just frayed around the edges. Did he really want to add even more to all of it? There had been bad days, days when getting out of bed wasn't even option, and better days, where he could put on a brave face and just go through the motions. Breaking down on a moment's notice was never out of the cards, but today was one of the better days. Even his still bum leg didn't bother him as he made his way through hallways, quickly moving past the door that belonged to Micah. Or so he'd been told by one of the servants. He could just kiss that cook they had, who went through extra effort to give him something 'hearty and nummy'. The heart of a man could be reached through his stomach; stews and pudding were the way to his. More so if the stew's ingredients contained Guinness and red wine. There was no stew for him right now, but apparently the word had gone out and a servant had come out with bottles of beer, and an ashtray. It was a cold, cold day, but that didn't bother him. Crutches had been discarded quickly and he'd taken seat on one of the lawn chairs. But it was only after taking a sip from his beer that he realized how beautiful this view really was. And with a rare content sigh, he let his head fall back against the back of the chair. It finally was a good day, even if his leg throbbed and shoulder sent lightning bolts of pain throughout his body every time he moved it. Now that, wouldn't stop him in the long run. Hadn't before. Pain was something he was familiar with. Hard not to be, considering his past as a fighter. |
