"What makes you think there is some grand conspiracy behind the death of your sister?" Gunnar was an oddity in the Drake household in that he didn't see the shadows of conspiracy in every movement. People died. The lives many of them lived meant that death was a great possibility. "It is quite likely that someone simply killed her because she had something they wanted. It would not be the first time such a thing occurred, but I suppose we shall find out when I've found the person responsible and asked them."
It was possible that his happiness was directly connected to the fact that he did not worry about the grand scheme of things. He dealt with small pieces of it and the things he was given to do. It made him a good follower, not a very good leader.
Her contradicting him did not cause him either distaste or discomfort. Lydia had her own set of skills, which he rarely saw or heard displayed, but the few instances he had been privy to made him take her at face value.
"There is something to be said for a certain amount of turmoil," he agreed. He slipped an arm around her and pulled her closer. "What shall we do together, Lydia? I've been gone far too long."
